Over the course of Buffy, Spike falls in love with the Slayer, reacquires his soul to prove himself to Buffy and dies a hero in the show's series finale.
In Season 5, Spike realizes that he's fallen in love with Buffy and pretty much hates himself for it. He does everything he can to convince him it's not true, but he can't deny it for long. When Buffy eventually learns of it, she's disgusted, which both upsets him and pisses him off.

In "Something Blue", a spell by Willow goes awry, blinding Giles, making Xander a literal demon magnet, and causing Buffy and Spike to fall in love and get engaged.
Spike Was Devoted To Drusilla
There's no mistaking the obvious devotion and personal care which led Spike to look after Drusilla for over a century. His attachment to her obviously stemmed from being sired by her in 1880, something Spike saw as a gift, making him see Dru as his savior.
Making up his mind fairly easily, Spike confessed his love to Buffy and desperately tried to convince her it was real. Drusilla suddenly laughed at him, revealing that she had known all along he loved her as a result of her unique abilities.

Sadly, at the end of the series, Buffy did not end up with Angel, or anyone at all. Despite the show ending, a comic book series produced by Buffy creator Joss Whedon has continued.
