Wonder isn't recommended for children under eight. Also, we recommend parental guidance for children aged 8-13 years, because of the movie's themes and violence. The main messages from this movie are about accepting others and looking beyond external appearances into people's real characters.
Suggested Reading/Grade Level
The suggested age level is 8-12 years old and the grade level is 3-7.
Just like Florence Pugh's recent psychological thriller Don't Worry Darling, The Wonder is rated R. Per the official MPAA film ratings guide, parents are strongly advised to screen R-rated movies first, or at least learn more about them before showing them to anyone under the age of 17.
Several have read it before, around the age of 8 - 9. It is age 9 (year 4 is age 8/9) and age 10 (year 5 is age 9/10). I am a volunteer school librarian (so no training!) but I read the book over the Easter holiday and will recommend it for Years 5 and 6. Would also, imo, make a great class reader for those years.
Content that may disturb children
In addition to the violent scenes mentioned above, Wonder has some scenes that could scare or disturb children under five years. For example, if children are unfamiliar with Star Wars, they might find Chewbacca a bit scary even though he is shown in a friendly way.
This show should not be watched by kids under 12 because of the sexual and drug use content. The show does have some mentions of sex but that's okay for teens because that's a part of life that they have to become familiar with soon anyways.
The lexile rating for the book is 790 L, but it is recommended for 5th-7th grades. The book's themes, involving adolescent issues, middle school, disabilities, friends and friendship are relevant to sixth grade. These themes are also high interest for many middle school age students.
Age Appropriate For: 10+.
Content that may disturb children
In addition to the violent scenes mentioned above, Wonder Woman has some scenes that could scare or disturb children aged under five years. For example: A plane crashes into the ocean. The pilot struggles to free himself from the plane in the water.
Set in 1860s Ireland, this intriguing film delves into thriller territory at times, then horror, yet remains a slow-burning, pensive period drama that exists somewhere between genre lines. The Wonder is based on a novel by Emma Donoghue, the same author who penned.
The true story behind The Wonder
The Wonder's enigmatic plot is largely inspired by a very real phenomenon that occurred in the 1800s in Ireland and the rest of the UK. The Fasting girls really did exist.
She is powerful but kind and empathetic, and is a good female role model, although somewhat unrealistic. However, due to the violence and scary scenes, Wonder Woman 1984 isn't appropriate for children under 12 years. We recommend parental guidance for children aged 12-14 years.
Wonder Woman is an action packed movie with some violence and sexual content that a 10 year old should be able to handle.
Wonder Woman is rated PG-13 by the MPAA for sequences of violence and action, and some suggestive content.
Wonder Woman 1984 is a really good movie with positive role models, but beware because it has some scenes you might not want your child to watch, like (spoiler alert) when Wonder Woman and shirtless Steve are in a bed kissing on top of one another, there are some bloody scenes but its nothing a child can't handle.
Language includes name-calling and insult words like "shut up," "jerk," "freak," and "deformed," as well as an "oh my God" or two. Teens kiss, and adults flirt/exchange mile innuendo.

But there are a few age-related guidelines to take into consideration: From a technical standpoint, Harry Potter is categorized as a middle-grade read, which typically encompasses 9–to–12-year-olds.
Out of Auggie's struggles and accomplishments, themes of strength, acceptance, resilience, kindness, and respect leap out of the pages of Wonder, making it an impactful read during Anti-Bullying Week for all children. Here are a few lessons about bullying that we can all learn (no matter big we are!)
It's Auggie and the rest of the children who are the real heart of 'Wonder,' and Palacio captures the voices of girls and boys, fifth graders and teenagers, with equal skill."
10 Years [2012] [PG-13] - 4.3. 5 | Parents' Guide & Review | Kids-In-Mind.com. SEX/NUDITY 4 - We see a woman on top of a man in the backset of a car and sex is implied but not seen (we see the windows of the car steaming up).
Parents need to know that some of this generally family-friendly series' humor may not be appropriate for the very youngest viewers. Sometimes the girls seem too eager to grow up too quickly, and issues like weight gain and envy are discussed by the preteen cast members.
The “Buddi” dolls in the film seem like a logical step in that direction - walking, talking cameras and microphones that monitors you constantly, awaiting orders. The “R” rating from the MPAA ought to give you a good idea that Child's Play isn't going to be the best film for your ten-year-old's birthday party.
Parents Need to Know
There's more romance here than in many of the male-centric superhero movies, including innuendo, brief references to reproduction and being aroused, kissing, characters possibly spending the night together, and a scene in which a naked Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) covers his privates with his hands.
