Youth is defined by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare as the period from 12–24 years of age. This period includes the three main stages of adolescence—early, middle and late—during which physical, intellectual, emotional and social changes take place.
Who Are the Youth? There is no universally agreed international definition of the youth age group. For statistical purposes, however, the United Nations—without prejudice to any other definitions made by Member States—defines 'youth' as those persons between the ages of 15 and 24 years.

At what age can my child leave school? In New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, the school leaving age is 17. This means that young people under the age of 17 are legally required to be in full-time education, training or employment.

Section 3(1) of the Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act 1997 (Tas.) defines a child as a person under 18 years of age.

For other employment, children cannot start work before 6am and must finish by 9pm. You can apply for a variation to these start and finish times via our Child Employment Portal .
To employ a child in other categories of work, such as retail or hospitality, the minimum age is 13 years – you'll need to apply for an industries other than entertainment permit. There is no minimum age for children working in the entertainment industry.
The legal leaving age is 17
In Victoria, the law is: Your child cannot leave schooling until they are 17 years old. Your child must go to a school campus (or an approved alternative) until they finish year 10.
At 18, your child can do all of the following: apply for a tax file number (TFN) without your help. access their immunisation history statement themselves. open their own bank account.

The law recognises that a young person may reach this stage before they are 18 years old, but there is no specific age when a young person may be sufficiently mature and capable of making their own decision. These young people are referred to as 'mature minors'.
Is year 12 content much more difficult than year 11? To be completely honest, the really overwhelming and difficult part of year 12 tends to be the pressure and the intensity of the study that you might come up against. The difference between the difficulty of the actual content is going to vary between subjects.
While you may think like this, it's possible to get into university without Year 12 when you consider other pathways that will help secure a place into your dream degree.
All New South Wales students must complete Year 10 or its equivalent. The NSW Government requires young people stay at school until they complete Year 10, or until they turn 17 years old - whichever comes first.
