General anesthesia is the most common type of sedation used for tooth extraction. The dentist will inject you with a drug that makes you unconscious and then give you oxygen to help you breathe.
General anesthesia is available for all types of oral surgery. A patient may choose general anesthesia for simple procedures depending on their level of anxiety. Most people having their wisdom teeth removed or having a dental implant placed will choose general anesthesia.

Waking up from anesthesia can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the type of anesthesia used and the individual's response to it. Generally, most people wake up within 30 minutes of the anesthesia being administered.
A typical dental local anesthetic will last anywhere from two to five hours, depending on how much your dentist applied for the procedure.

Swelling and Bruising.
Tissue injury, whether accidental or intentional (e.g. surgery), is followed by localized swelling. After surgery, swelling increases progressively, reaching its peak by the third day. It is generally worse when you first arise in the morning and decreases throughout the day.
After the oral surgery, there will be soreness in the incision areas. This may make it painful to swallow or chew. In most cases, the patient's diet will have restrictions, such as the inability to eat solid foods. There also could be bleeding and swelling for a few days after the surgery.
