4 Essential Steps of First Aid: Assess, Plan, Implement, Evaluate.
Royal Life Saving is encouraging people who find themselvesin a rescue situation to follow the 4 A's of Rescue; Awareness, Assessment, Action and Aftercare.
The BSA emphasizes four main water rescue techniques: Reach, Throw, Row, and Go. Each of these methods has its own unique advantages and can be used depending on the situation.
Rescues should be attempted in the following order: talk, throw, reach, wade, row, swim, tow and carry.
These guidelines explain the five stages of a SAR operation: Awareness, Initial Action, Planning, Operations, and Conclusion.
The “rule of rescue” (RR) is the human impulse to rescue an identifiable person facing imminent threat, regardless of associated costs.
A ring buoy is a buoyant ring with 40 to 50 feet of lightweight line attached to it. The ring is thrown by a rescuer to someone who needs help in the water.
A direct-contact tow, holding the chin of the casualty, with the towing arm fully extended.
“Reach and throw – don't go!” : Never try to save anyone by jumping in yourself; then two people are at risk. Throw them something that floats, or grab a pole that reaches them. Yell yell YELL for help and call 911.
Head Tow. A firm hold of the unconscious casualty's head is required. Clothing Tow. The unconscious person is clothed, and the conditions are calm.
Some of the most common search and rescue techniques include: Trench and excavation search and rescue. Technical rope rescue. Structural collapse search and rescue. Confined space search and rescue.
If you see a person being pulled away from the beach, have someone call 911. While that is being done, try to throw a buoyant object to the victim. Examples of this are a body board, cooler, or any other object that will assist the victim in staying afloat.
The primary survey is a quick way to find out how to treat any life threating conditions a casualty may have in order of priority. We can use DRABC to do this: Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing and Circulation.
The seven steps of CPR are as follows: check for Danger, call for Help, check the Victim's Airway, give Two Rescue Breaths, perform Chest Compressions, switch Roles with the Compressor (if available), and continue Compressions until Advanced Medical help arrives.
The golden hour is the period of time immediately after a traumatic injury during which there is the highest likelihood that prompt medical and surgical treatment will prevent death.
A Road Traffic Collision (RTC) is similar to any other incident attended by the Emergency Services, in that a dynamic process is followed involving a team of professionals with complementary backgrounds and skills, who share a common goal.
Your first priority should be your personal safety
When performing a rescue in any situation, the first priority should be your personal safety. Rescuing more than one person can be extremely strenuous for the rescuer and dangerous for all parties involved.
Initial Action - This stage is the period in which the SAR system begins response, and follows immediately after an element of the system is made aware of the emergency.
HUMAN CRUTCH/
TWO-PERSON DRAG. For the conscious victim, this carry allows the victim to swing their leg using the rescuers as a pair of crutches. For the unconscious victim, it is a quick and easy way to move a victim out of immediate danger.
Understand that rescues fall into two categories
There are time-sensitive and non-time-sensitive rescues.
