“Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth” – Gautama Buddha. Topic: Human Values – lessons from the lives and teachings of great leaders, reformers and administrators.
In brief, the eight elements of the path are: (1) correct view, an accurate understanding of the nature of things, specifically the Four Noble Truths, (2) correct intention, avoiding thoughts of attachment, hatred, and harmful intent, (3) correct speech, refraining from verbal misdeeds such as lying, divisive speech, ...
The Four Noble Truths comprise the essence of Buddha's teachings, though they leave much left unexplained. They are the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and the truth of the path that leads to the end of suffering.
In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.
The number 3 refers to the trinity, a symbol of divine protection, help and guidance. It also refers to the three training of discipline, concentration and discrimination.
In their eyes the number 3 was considered as the perfect number, the number of harmony, wisdom and understanding. It was also the number of time – past, present, future; birth, life, death; beginning, middle, end – it was the number of the divine.
Christians also see three as symbolic of the Trinity, the triune nature of God: as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Three distinct persons who share one divine nature and have existed eternally in community with one another.
