We get many calls a week from people asking if the $2 coloured coins they've found in their change or worth money. The answer from us is most often, “no”.

The rarest £2 coins

The Royal Australian Mint has released a $2 collectors' coin to celebrate 200 years since the introduction of the European honeybee. At the time of writing, one of the 60,000 uncirculated coins was selling for as high as A$36 – but that's not the only sting in the tail of this commemorative release.

1893 Morgan Silver Dollar: $551,272
Quite a few Morgan Silver Dollars were minted from 1878 to 1904 and 1921, but they still hold a top spot on the most expensive coins ever sold on eBay, with many examples going for thousands of dollars.
One eBay auction listed the 1988 'HH' $2 coin, asking for bids starting at a whopping $10,000. Other auctions have the $2 pieces selling for $5 to $20 while another auction is selling the coin for $2,000.
Without any paint at all, these $2 coins can get you $50. Another coin with some red paint remaining can fetch you $100. And if the coin hasn't been in circulation at all and is in perfect condition, selling the coin can fetch you $200 or more, “depending on the grade,” according to Kandiah.
