The coin is the silver 50c coin released for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, which was initially sold for $12.50. Following the Queen's death, the numismatist said the coin is now valued at $100. The only coin in circulation that has increased in value significantly is the 2013 Coronation colour $2 coin.

The 92/93 EEC 50ps were released by the Royal Mint between 1992 and 1993. They were to celebrate the British presidency of the council of Europe, and only 109,000 were ever made. Its maximum mintage of the coins has been fixed at 5,000,070 in a further nod to the Queen's 70 years on the throne. The new coin could be worth thousands of pounds to collectors, depending on the rarity. The Kew Gardens coin was launched in 2009 and has been the most expensive 50p coin on the market.
The blog reports that in 2014 a 1977 Jubilee crown coin went to auction after it was found to have been minted incorrectly. The coin's design was said to be off-centre due to an error in the striking process. Its value was said to be estimated between £100 and £150. However, the final selling price is unknown.
