Deep condition hair overnight as a daily moisturizer
This is one of our easiest tips on how to moisturize dry hair – apply a leave-in conditioner or hydrating hair oil, wrap hair in a silk scarf or shower cap, and get your beauty sleep. In the morning you'll wake up with hydrated, healthy-looking locks.
As an overnight treatment, coat hair with warm grapeseed oil, cover with a shower cap or towel and wash it out in the morning. Grapeseed oil also makes a great carrier oil for essential oils that aid in stress relief and relaxation of hair follicles.
When you leave the conditioner in your hair overnight, your hair may get brittle, dull, frizzy, or tangled. Not to mention, the excess water can make it look dull, attract dirt and dust, give it a gummy texture, create split ends, and cause breakage.
Avoid leaving oil in overnight
The longer, the better — that may be true for some hair treatments but not for hair oiling as the oil can block your hair follicles. Unless an ayurvedic doctor or expert has asked you to leave a medicated oil overnight, wash out the oil within 3-4 hours.
Is it bad to leave coconut oil in your hair overnight? No, putting coconut oil in your hair is not bad. Coconut oil stays in your hair and penetrates into the scalp and the shafts, making it stronger and luscious. Hence, it is always good to leave it overnight and then wash it off the next day.
Leaving oil on your hair everyday for too long can cause product build-up on your scalp. It may also clog your pores, attract dirt and accumulate dandruff. Oiling your hair everyday also means that you have to wash it with shampoo everyday. This is not ideal to achieve healthy, lustrous and soft hair.
You can use fenugreek oil for obtaining long and silky hair. You can boil a few seeds of fenugreek in coconut oil and apply them to hair and scalp. When the oil cools down, you can use this oil for massaging your head. Leave this oil overnight in your hair and then wash it off the next day to get silky hair.
Apply oil on your scalp and massage with fingertips using a circular motion. Apply the oil left on your palms to your hair. Cover with a towel or shower cap and leave on overnight. The next day, shampoo hair while dry.
Macadamia Oil
Macadamia oil is extracted from macadamia nuts and is enriched with fatty acids. These fatty acids make it one of the best hair oils for dry and frizzy hair. If you frequently style your hair with heat tools, using hair masks with macadamia oil can deeply nourish your hair.
Oils like castor, peppermint, onion, coconut, jojoba, argan, amla, olive, grapeseed, rosemary, and tea tree are often recommended for hair growth. They help boost blood circulation and strengthen hair.
Smooth coconut oil onto hair and comb it through dry hair. Leave it on for at 15 to 30 minutes to let it absorb. Thoroughly wash hair with a great shampoo (you may need to shampoo twice to remove all of the oil) and conditioning as usual.
Coconut oil has a long shelf life, but it is perishable and will go bad. You can prolong the shelf life of coconut oil by storing it properly in an airtight container in a cool place. Only use coconut oil if you're sure it hasn't become rancid. Discard expired coconut oil immediately.
Argan oil and argan oil masks have a slightly nutty scent and apply smoothly. The oil isn't gritty and absorbs quite quickly. And yes, you can definitely leave them on your hair overnight.
Avoid oiling your hair if you have an oily scalp
“There are high chances of getting an infection if you apply oil frequently on an oily scalp. You can do it once in a blue moon. Also, if you have acne on your forehead then avoid applying oil to the crown region,” she suggests.
“Hair loss is directly linked to the pH level of your scalp,” says Anker, “So if your hair is dry or overly oily, you'll experience more hair loss.” Adding extra oil to the scalp also messes with the natural oil/water balance on the scalp. “If you put extra oil on it your body will stop producing natural oil.”
Olive Oil in Hair Overnight
You can use olive oil a deep conditioner overnight if you need some extra moisture. After experimenting with leaving olive oil in my hair overnight, I recommend a protective style such as a braid, high bun, or twists if you have course hair.
How Much Should You Wash? For the average person, every other day, or every 2 to 3 days, without washing is generally fine. “There is no blanket recommendation. If hair is visibly oily, scalp is itching, or there's flaking due to dirt,” those are signs it's time to shampoo, Goh says.
Over conditioning can lead to hygral fatigue. Hygral fatigue is a condition where your hair cuticles swell up due to extra moisture from conditioning too much. Leaving the conditioner overnight can result in hygral fatigue that can wreak havoc on your hair.
If you don't rinse out your conditioner, it gets dried up leaving behind a dusty residue on the scalp. This may again lead to clogging of hair follicles thereby leading to hair fall.
