The green-tinted concealer is the best as it negates the red tones of the skin. Apply a foundation that's a little lighter than your skin tone, directly on the hickey (love bite) and all around it. The idea is to even out the skin tone. You can also dust a little translucent powder to hide it further.
Color correcting concealer
"If it's purple toned, use a yellow concealer to cover....if it's more red, then use green, if it's healing and has turned yellow-ish, use peach," says Trotter.
Two shades of concealer in fact: one that matches your skin tone and one that's a shade lighter. “You need the lighter shade to knock out the deeper tones of the bruise like purple and blue,” says De Zarate, who says to first apply the lighter color to the hickey itself (don't go beyond the edges) with your finger.
Your best bet is to treat your hickey with good old-fashioned warm compresses. “Warm compresses can help open up your body's blood vessels and break down the stain, taking away the red blood cells that have spilled out from the blood vessels and into your skin,” Dr. Vij explains.
Like other bruises, they will change color over time as they heal and fade. Hickeys start out red because of the intact red blood cells in the bruise loaded with hemoglobin underneath the skin. After a few days, the red blood cells begin to break down, and shades of blue and purple appear.
Generally after getting a hickey, the blood under the skin is dark red at first. Once it dries out, though, it turns to a darker purple or brown color, creating the marks we know and love (or hate, whatever). As your hickey begins to heal, it may take on a yellowish color, typical of most bruises.
You'll probably notice your hickey is cherry red initially, before turning darker over the next two days as the hemoglobin in your blood loses oxygen. By day five, it'll start to fade, and within a week or two, it'll turn yellow-ish before disappearing entirely.
The toothpaste method to treat a hickey
The toothpaste method works as follows: Apply a layer of toothpaste or peppermint oil directly to your hickey, the area will start to tingle. When the tingling stops, remove the excess oil or toothpaste with a clean wet cloth.
Because a hickey is a type of bruise, some basic first aid principles can help reduce the appearance of a hickey if a person acts quickly. Applying a cold compress or ice pack to the affected area for 15–20 minutes can stop any bleeding, reduce swelling, and help the healing process.
Use a Cold Compress
"And the sooner you can do it, the better. It's analogous to trying to minimize swelling after an acute injury." Use a cloth soaked in cold water, an ice pack, or even a cold spoon on the hickey for 10 minutes a few times a day for the first day.
A hickey, hickie or love bite in British English, is a bruise or bruise-like mark caused by kissing or sucking skin, usually on the neck, arm, or earlobe.
The idea is: Apply minty toothpaste to your hickey to stimulate circulation and speed up the healing process. But limit your use of this hack to once per day—too much toothpaste can irritate your skin. The verdict: Stop what you're doing; you might irritate the skin surrounding your hickey.
Toothpaste to the rescue
Apply a mint-based toothpaste to the hickey. The tingling sensation that it produces will increase blood flow to the area and allow reabsorbtion of the clot.
