Yet “red” was also the most frequent color listed for contempt, fear, and surprise; and “green” was also the most frequent color for disgust; “yellow” also for joy; and “blue” also for pride.
Different states of anger, like fury and annoyance, are represented by red triangles.
The Color of Fear
The emotion characters are designated by pretty strong colors. Red was the clear choice for anger, voiced by rage comic Lewis Black, and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) is green because "when you see green food it kind of indicates it's gone bad," Docter said.

Tybur, et al., outlines three domains of disgust: pathogen disgust, which "motivates the avoidance of infectious microorganisms"; sexual disgust, "which motivates the avoidance of [dangerous] sexual partners and behaviors"; and moral disgust, which motivates people to avoid breaking social norms.
Common vocal expressions of disgust in the English language include saying things like “yuck”, “ugh” or “ew”, vocalizations that linguists call “emotive interjections” and which express feelings, rather than describe them (Goddard, 2013).
Sad colors—gray, brown, beige and dark blue
Sad colors are usually dark, muted and neutral, such as gray, brown, beige and certain shades of blue and green. In Western cultures, black is often considered the color of mourning, whereas in some East Asian countries, it's white. Sad colors.
Optimism – The color green evokes a feeling of hopefulness, responsibility, wealth, forgiveness, comfort and energy; all of which can be characteristics of someone who is optimistic.
Green is the color used for awareness in mental health. It is a symbol for mental illnesses, bipolar disorder and depression. Green symbolizes the continual awareness of mental health in order to help fight the stigma that is often associated it.
Disgust is a common experience and has many different descriptions in everyday language. People describe disgust as an icky, yucky, gross, or as a vile or revolting feeling. Lower level disgust is characterized by words such as dislike, aversion, distaste. People loathe disgusting things.
Darwin [20] noted that the face reddens or becomes purple during rage, with distension of forehead and neck veins–in other words, the face flushes. Flushing is due to a rush of oxygenated blood to the facial veins, which is perceived by trichromatic humans as increased redness [21, 22, 23].

For instance, light purples are associated with light-hearted, romantic energies, while darker shades can represent sadness and frustration. In some parts of Europe, purple is associated with death and mourning.
Deep shades of gray are associated with depression and loneliness.
The color pink, for example, is thought to be a calming color associated with love, kindness, and femininity. Many people immediately associate the color pink with all things feminine and girly.
Yellow was most often associated with a normal mood and grey with an anxious or depressed mood. Different shades of the same color had completely different positive or negative connotations.
Red can trigger anxiety in many people, and is known to be one of the most stressful colors to decorate with.
