The Wellness Indicator in Perfect Litter is a pH indicator for high alkalinity and is designed to be an early warning system for Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease. Perfect Litter will turn color (light pink) upon contact with feline alkaline urine; the darker shade of red the higher the urine pH.
Golden yellow or olive green litter: a healthy cat (at least in regard to what can be detected via the urine) Red litter: blood in the urine. Blue litter: high alkaline content, which may indicate a urinary tract infection. Bright green litter: abnormal acidity, which may indicate a metabolic disorder.
Dark yellow or olive green: This is the “normal” color for your cat's urine when using pretty litter. It's best to clean Pretty Litter regularly to ensure that the color remains the same.
The litter has a color code to make it easy for pet owners to better understand their cats' health. Green or blue coloring may indicate a urinary tract infection or overly high pH, while yellow or orange can indicate too low of a pH, a condition that can lead to kidney failure.
Don't be alarmed if the litter gradually turns yellow over time, this just means PrettyLitter is doing its work to trap and absorb odors.
Pretty Litter is highly safe for cats if you're worried about their safety. You may relax knowing that your cat's health is the top priority because it was developed specifically for cats by a team of veterinarians and scientists. It uses naturally occurring minerals that cats can breathe or ingest without any harm.
If you're using a cat litter subscription such as PrettyLitter, it will be time to change your kitty litter once all of the crystals have changed color – ideally to a yellow or lime-green color, which indicates normal urine pH.
If your cat has a UTI, our health monitoring litter may change to yellow, indicating a low pH.
If their pee is overly acidic, the litter will take on a yellow or orange color, and if it's too alkaline, it may turn blue. Additionally, if there's blood present in their urine, the litter will turn red.
A PrettyLitter color change is strongest during the first 5 minutes to 1 hour following a fresh mark or urine sample, then slowly begins to fade. Most of the color change will fade after 3 to 4 hours, so continue to monitor your cat's movement and check the litter box after the cat has exited.
Normal pH urine will turn the crystals a yellow or olive green; a high pH, which could mean a urinary tract infection (UTI), makes the crystals turn blue; and low urinary pH turns them dark orange, and it could mean metabolic acidosis and kidney tubular acidosis, which can lead to kidney stones.
Blue Litter
If PrettyLitter turns blue or dark green, it means the cat's urine has a high pH level. This means the cat could have a urinary tract infection and/or might be at risk for developing bladder crystals and stones.
Overall, we love this product and rate it highly compared to the many other brands we have tried. Finding a litter that your cat likes and is easy to maintain is not always easy, but Pretty Litter does a pretty good job all in. It is easy to clean and does not require changing as often as many other litters.
A variety of studies have found that cats prefer their litter to be soft and fine-grained. A recent study compared three types of unscented litter—wood pellets, silica microgranules, and nonclumping clay granules. Overwhelmingly, the cats chose silica and clay over the pellets.
And because, unlike clay litter, crystal litter does not stick to litter box surfaces or form a hard “crust”, the cleaning process will be much quicker! Crystal litter should be changed out completely every few weeks to once a month, depending on how many cats are using the same box.
PrettyLitter: Refill Just Once a Month
As a cat owner, when it comes to how to choose cat litter, PrettyLitter is a name to know. Our innovative cat urine-activated, color-changing cat litter formula can help you discover urinary infections, kidney disease, and metabolic acidosis.
Fantastic, even though it is a bit on the expensive side, it last longer than regular cat litters,no mess or odors and it is delivered to your door.
In an average sized litter box, one 8lb bag should last 3 weeks to one month. If its larger than average it will last less than that amount of time. If you want a full month's worth of use, you will need 2.5-3 inches of depth in their box.
Many signs of kidney disease, such as blood in the urine and abnormal acidity, can be detected by PrettyLitter. If you're using PrettyLitter, keep an eye out for any red or orange spots in your cat's litter box.
Use a Litter Deodorizer
Litter deodorizers are great for neutralizing and controlling litter box odor and they are easy and safe to use. Most litter deodorizers are made with baking soda and can help keep your cat's litter smelling fresher for longer. They come in different forms, including sprays and powders.
In general, Pretty Litter is extremely absorbent. With two cats sharing a box, the crystal litter easily absorbed what it was given to handle. Very quickly, it could dehydrate solid waste and keep the box dry without clumping litter. Having this impressive effect benefits the cat and owner.
Pretty Litter also helps detect abnormal levels of bilirubin for potential liver issues, and can also help detect the presence of blood in a cat's urine.
You cannot flush or compost Pretty Litter because it is not a biodegradable material. Therefore, your best bet, and the ideal choice for the environment, is scooping the waste into a plastic bag and throwing it into the garbage can.
Detecting & Preventing UTIs
If your cat is using PrettyLitter, the granules will turn blue to indicate that your cat may have a urinary tract infection or other health problem. Taking steps to prevent urinary tract infections in your cat is crucial.
