The consensus is that the "non-colours", white and black, and the colours yellow, green, and orange are generally most acceptable. These colours (yellow, green, orange) are in the middle of the visible spectrum (the range of colours that our eyes can detect) and are the easiest for the eye to see.
'Yellow (orange shares similar characteristics) is the color of energy, happiness, and optimism and therefore a brilliant choice for either a kitchen or a home office – but try and avoid in a bedroom as this primarily is a space for rest,' warns Patrick.

Red increases stress, while green and white decrease stress.

That's why you cannot see color very well in dark places.

Blue. Though blue is a very basic and indeed a classic color, it is also a color that is very soothing to the mind and helps to reduce feelings of anxiety and stress.
The use of bright and warm colors, such as oranges, yellows, and greens, can also evoke feelings of happiness and energy. Furthermore, using patterns can also create a sense of flow and movement within a space, which can help reduce feelings of stress and anxiety.
These include earthy greens, dusty soft yellows, light clay browns, soft oranges, and natural pinks. All of these calm colors are plucked from natural landscapes, which makes them ideal options for the bedroom. Green, especially, is known to diffuse anxiety and welcome harmony.
Sadness. “Gray” was the most frequent color indicated for sadness, followed by “indigo” and then “black” (Figure 1).
