Red is a color deeply rooted in the human psyche, and connected to the most powerful emotions, love and hate.
Pantone 448 C is a colour in the Pantone colour system. Described as a drab dark brown and informally dubbed the "ugliest colour in the world", it was selected in 2012 as the colour for plain tobacco and cigarette packaging in Australia, after market researchers determined that it was the least attractive colour.
The color red seems to be consistently associated with the concept of anger. Beyond semantic associations, it has been suggested that the color red enhances our ability to perceive anger in faces.
Black: Power, sexuality, sophistication, formality, elegance, wealth, mystery, fear, evil, unhappiness, depth, style, evil, sadness, remorse, anger, anonymity, underground, good technical color, mourning, death (Western cultures).
Undoubtedly, the strongest link between an individual emotion and color is “red” and anger, which has been noted across studies and formats (e.g., Kaya and Epps, 2004; Sutton and Altarriba, 2016).
Positive meanings of orange include warmth, energy, youthfulness, health and adventure. The most common negative associations of the color include crassness, rudeness and frivolity.
Black is a primary color across all models of color space. In Western culture, it is considered a negative color and usually symbolizes death, grief, or evil but also depression.
In Europe and America, grey is the color most associated with boredom, loneliness and emptiness. It is associated with rainy days and winter.
Gray Colors
It also evokes feelings of loneliness and isolation. Since gray is neither black nor white, it's usually thought of as the transition between two non-colors.
The color red was most associated with anger, green with disgust, black with fear, yellow with happiness, blue with sadness, and bright with surprise.
The colors we use to describe emotions may be more useful than you think, according to new research. The study found that people with or anxiety were more likely to associate their mood with the color gray, while preferred yellow.
Purple. Purple makes you feel creative. Purple is associated with mystery, creativity, royalty and wealth. Lighter shades of purple are often used to soothe or calm a viewer, hence why it is used in beauty products.
Yellow was most often associated with a normal mood and grey with an anxious or depressed mood.
Yellow is the least favorite color, preferred by only five percent of people. Another interesting survey finding: both men and women increasingly dislike orange as they age!
Yet “red” was also the most frequent color listed for contempt, fear, and surprise; and “green” was also the most frequent color for disgust; “yellow” also for joy; and “blue” also for pride. Therefore, in both studies there were no consistent and specific pairings.
As for the least preferred colors, yellow is mentioned in eight studies, while orange and green-yellow are mentioned in five studies each. Thus, the most attractive color is blue, the second most preferred is red, followed by green, while yellow was found to be the least preferred color (Figure 1).
The blue quadrant is for unpleasant, low energy feelings like disappointment, sadness, discouragement, hopelessness, and loneliness.

Yellow, the lightest hue of the spectrum, signifies joy, happiness, betrayal, optimism, caution, idealism, imagination, hope, sunshine, summer, gold, philosophy, dishonesty, cowardice, jealousy, covetousness, deceit, illness, hazard and friendship.
It's a type of chromophobia, which is a fear of colors. People with porphyrophobia may experience severe anxiety when they see or think of purple in any form, or it might be a reaction to specific shades of purple.
That being said, color psychology attributes orange to selfishness and opportunism, so make of it what you will.
