As with any hair color and complexion, there are some “no-no's.” Avoid pastels since these colors tend to wash out those with red hair. Also avoid most oranges, yellows, and burgundy-reds. Yellow is really a wild card color— on some it looks unbelievably good, and others it washes them out!
AVOID: PALE COLORLESS FABRICS & CITRUS HUES
The worst thing you can do is wash-out your color profile by wearing shades that are too similar to your natural coloring.
As much as I regard Anne Shirley (with an "e") to be an expert on most things, this is one subject which we don't see eye-to-eye on. Redheads not being able to wear pink, or red, is a very persistent myth. It's funny how other myths die, but fashion myths and rules persist.
Black works fabulously for redheads, and a variety of browns are appropriate, too. Look for chocolates, cinnamon browns and rich tans. Navy blue should be in the closet of every red-tressed woman. But is a neutral like white really a good pick for a pale-skinned beauty with red hair?
If you're shopping for a red head, then you'll want to pick jewelry items in shades of silver, including aluminum, sterling silver, platinum, white gold and stainless steel. Red hair really complements these silvery metals, which stand out against red locks.
All redheads should have green in their closet— most shades are instantly flattering. Olive green, kelly green, and emerald jeweled-tones all make red hair dazzle. Just be sure to stay away from yellowy-greens and always go for more of the saturated greens.
Susceptible to sunburn — and melanoma
While it makes redheads more susceptible to sunburn, that very sensitivity to ultraviolet rays also allows their bodies to produce more vitamin D, which is essential to bone development and good health.
Redheads Look Older Than They Are
That wasn't because redheads had more wrinkles, which you might guess since they're more prone to sun damage. The researcher showed the MC1R gene variant correlated to thinning lips, sagging skin along the jawline, and other visible signs of aging.
The main shades are: Sage Green: This ashy grey-green is gorgeous on redheads and is a perfect transition color between seasons, especially summer and fall. Olive Green: Maybe the holy grail of all redhead greens is olive green. It's versatile and adds a pop of color without feeling too overwhelming.
That'd be red hair with blue eyes. There's a little genetic tweak that makes the combination of red hair and blue eyes the rarest of them all.
Finding the right shade of any colour that works well with redheads' pale skin tone and ginger hair can be limiting, but, we're here to tell you that you can wear more colours than you think! In fact, white is the equal balance of all the colours in the spectrum.
Lilac/Lavender
Purple is a gorgeous color for spring and summer, and we are loving lilac and lavender this summer. Lilac tends to run more pink and is really complimentary for warm-toned redheads, while lavender tends to run more blue and works best for cool-toned redheads.
Deep pink and coral matches the energy brought by red hair, while bronze lipsticks give out a warmer look on the lips. Different shades of Red like True Red, Deep Red and Berry Lipsticks match and highlight Redheads even more. Shimmer lipstick adds up to a much trendier look for all Redheads in 2023.
And yes, you guessed it, all three of those ladies (and many more redhead celebrities) look lovely in pink. Everywhere I turn now I see a redhead in a color I never thought I could pull off, looking absolutely gorgeous.
Lifespan: up to 20 years in captivity, 5-10 years in the wild. Special Adaptations: Males have an elaborate courtship dance where they throw back their heads, almost touching their tail!
One of the many facts about redheads is that their hair will never turn grey. The pigment in their hair that causes it to be red will just fade over time, causing their hair to turn blonde or white, but never grey.
It's been proven that people with ginger hair don't go grey, but instead retain their natural pigment for much longer than any blonde or brunette counterparts. Red hair simply fades with age, covering a whole spectrum of copper and rosy-blonde colours until it reaches a silvery-white.
Edwin Liem at the University of Louisville in Kentucky found that redheads are more sensitive to hot and cold, and are hurt by the cold at temperatures nearly 11 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than others.
They may be more sensitive to certain types of pain and can require higher doses of some pain-killing medications. However, studies suggest that their general pain tolerance may be higher. People with red hair also respond more effectively to opioid pain medications, requiring lower doses.
First up, studies have found that people with ginger hair are better in bed. This is because of a specific gene connected to redheads – the MC1R gene. This gene makes the individual more sensitive to touch than people with other hair colours.
Non-derogatory terms
According to the Associated Press Stylebook, "red-haired, redhead and redheaded are all acceptable for a person with red hair." Some people with red hair prefer the term auburn to describe their hair color.
Stick to shadows containing a warm undertone like brown, bronze, evergreen and deep orange (yes, deep orange can look great with red hair).
According to Health Magazine, redheads can produce their own vitamin D when exposed to low levels of light. 4. You may not need as much pain medication. The gene responsible for red hair (MC1R) also releases a hormone that is similar to endorphins which limit the feeling of pain.
