What is the next level when it comes to going beyond C2? There comes academic English. It takes your level to a proficient level to master, and specialize in the language.
- The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is a standardized framework that describes language proficiency levels. The CEFR levels are: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. C2 level is considered the highest level of proficiency in the framework, it is considered as the "Mastery" or "Proficiency" level.
Language proficiency levels A1-C2 refer to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). They indicate Beginner (A1-A2), Intermediate (B1-B2), and Advanced (C1-C2) levels of foreign language competence.
The main difference between the two tests is the level of English that they allow you to achieve. C1 Advanced is targeted at the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), while C2 is targeted at the C2 CEFR level. C2 Proficiency is therefore the more difficult of the two exams.

CEFR C2 Level (Proficient)
Learners at C2 language proficiency are the most proficient on the CEFR scale, understanding almost all input easily. C2 users can summarize and present information, and even reconstruct arguments or narratives that they have already heard.
Reaching B2 is generally considered by most people as having basic fluency. You'll have a working vocabulary of around 4000 words. It's not always effortless and it's not always perfect, but neither you nor your native speaking partners are having a really hard time in most circumstances at this point.
A C2 level of English is essentially a native level. It allows for reading and writing of any type on any subject, nuanced expression of emotions and opinions, and active participation in any academic or professional setting.
SKILLS AT LEVEL C1

English Level 10: Low Advanced. English Level 11: Middle Advanced. In this level the students gradually improve: vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation.
Fluency - Level C3
The C3-Fluency course attempts to bring the student to complete functional fluency. Particular attention is given to acquiring a deeper understanding of the connotation of words and the rhythm of the language. Students are expected to produce daily passages in clearly and precisely.
Lower-level tests are able to deliver scores on a lower range of the scale and more difficult tests are able to deliver scores higher on the same scale. Valid scores on the C2 Proficiency Exam range from 180 to 230.
The ACTFL scale consists of five main fluency levels known as Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Superior and Distinguished. These levels include sublevels of proficiency known as low, medium or high.
So, what exactly are the different levels of language learning? Well, many teachers and experts around the world use the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The CEFR has six levels from beginner (A1) to very advanced (C2).
The C1 level would allow for full autonomy in a native English-speaking country. According to the official CEFR guidelines, someone at the C1 level in English: Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning.
An example of beyond-C2-level English is academic English. Academic English requires a different level of formality, longer and complex sentences, and is sometimes filled with jargon (vocabulary specific to a particular field of research).
Level C2 corresponds to proficient users of the language, i.e. those able to perform complex tasks related to work and study.
