Billy Grade is an Irish retired professional footballer who becomes a singer in the Garrison Pub. He becomes a bookmaker for the Peaky Blinders.
Billy Grade (Emmett J Scanlan) is revealed to be the informant or 'black cat' that betrayed the Peaky Blinders. In the last season, Finn informed him that Tommy had devised a plan to kill Mosley, and it was happening that night.
After Jack Nelson violently forced Billy Grade into becoming an informant for his operation, somehow Tommy found out (possibly because Billy was passing information to Gina Gray, whom Tommy had surveilled and was blackmailing over her adultery with Oswald Mosley).
From one brother to the other, Finn Shelby (Harry Kirton) is banished from the family for his role in bringing a traitor in Billy Grade (Emmett J. Scanlan) into the fold. Finn promises vengeance on Duke Shelby (Conrad Khan), Tommy's firstborn son and heir, ordering him banished by order of the Peaky Blinders.
Tommy is left wondering who betrayed them. Peaky Blinders' season 6 episode 5 confirmed that Billy Grade was the "black cat" who outed Tommy's assassination plan to the IRA.
Jack Nelson violently forces Billy to act as his informant on the Peaky Blinders so he can have Arthur Shelby killed. Nelson most likely got Billy Grade's name from Laura McKee of the IRA.
They were distrusting of Finn because he trusted Billy far too much. The final straw was Finn turning his back on them all, and trying to shoot Duke. A member of the family. He betrayed them."
Despite the plan being a ruse, Tommy is upset with Michael for not warning him about it, since as far as he knew, he was letting Tommy die. Michael says that he did it to protect his mother.
That suggests that Tommy's handing on a mixture of "you're up, kidda" business stuff and straightforward "I'm gonna die, kidda" stuff. Certainly, that's what the direction and editing hints at. We see young Charles, buttoned up in his grey coat, looking distinctly miffed.
Murphy explained to BBC that he rolls the cigarette filter in such a way, so that it doesn't stick. He said: “That comes from the fact that the cigarettes, we cut the filter off or do we leave the filter on I cannot recall, but anyway if you don't rub them across your lips initially, they will stick.
He had tuberculoma in his brain stem, a growth caused by the same bacteria as the lung disease, doubtless picked up from daughter Ruby (Orla McDonagh). It wasn't infectious but it was inoperable. The symptoms (seizures, dissociation, hallucinations, sharp cheekbones – I may have added the last one) chimed with Tommy's.
8 Aberama Gold
First, Aberama lost his son to the Billy Boys, and then he began to plot the assassination of Jimmy McCavern, but before he could complete the task, Aberama was killed by the IRA.
There's a theory on the Internet that Johnny Dogs, resentful of Aberama Gold's connection to the Shelbys, is the ultimate traitor. After all, Aberama had accused him of treason before and ended up being murdered in the attempted coup.
Billy Grade
But Billy was shot by Duke for leaking the plan to kill Mosley to the IRA and setting in motion the chain of events that led to Polly's death. Billy didn't have a great season: first he garrotes his first guy, then has his knackers garroted by Jack Nelson, then he dies.
Enter Luca Changretta, played by Adrien Brody, the second son of Vicente Changretta and member of the Black Hand from New York City. He marks the Peaky Blinders for death, holding a vendetta for the Shelbys' role in murdering both his father and brother.
However, Billy Grade (Emmett J. Scanlan) was revealed to be the informant after he picked up the phone and tipped off the IRA. The IRA took out Barney as well as Aberama Gold (Aidan Gillen) and Polly Gray (Helen McCrory) to thwart the plan and also to punish Tommy.
Lizzie officially reached the end of her tether after discovering Tommy had slept with Diana Mitford and decided to leave him. Still distraught over the death of her daughter Ruby, she's surprised when Tommy's son Charlie asks to join her instead of staying with him.
The sapphire was thrown into the river and Evadne duly cursed Tommy Shelby, that if he should ever have a daughter, she would also die at that age.
If you've ever noticed that Shelby never eats on the show, that's because it was an accidental choice that later turned into an intentional decision. Once fans noticed this quirk, Murphy and Knight decided to turn it into a “Tommy thing,” which added to the character's obsessive industriousness.
Oswald Mosley's Many Mistresses
He reveled in the knowledge that he slept with Tommy's wife, Lizzie (Natasha O'Keeffe), when she was a sex worker, but Tommy has also done his research and knows Oswald has been cheating on his wife with her sister and step-mother.
Series 5. Alfie is revealed to be alive, living in Margate. His face is visibly scarred from Tommy's shooting, leaving him blind in his left eye. Alfie is acutely aware of the rise of fascist politician Sir Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin), as well as Tommy's career in politics.
So her absence would be felt no matter what decision was made, but ultimately, Knight shared, “the idea that Polly's alive but she's gone to America or something wasn't right.” Instead, the creator decided that killing her off was the more honorable thing to do and the death is revealed early on in the new season.
Eventually, Peaky Blinders leader Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) discovered Finn's informant status and gave him false intel that thwarted both the planned murder of Tommy at the hands of cousin Michael Gray (Finn Cole) and the planned murder of older brother Arthur Shelby (Paul Anderson) at the hands of the IRA.
Following Freddie's death from 'pestilence', Ada has moved to London. Her support for the communist cause leads to a disapproval of the lifestyle of her family and this results in her self-imposed isolation from the Shelby clan. However, Thomas still pays her visits and looks out for her welfare.
Sadly, the sixth and final season starts with the unexpected death of the family matriarch, Polly Gray. The Season 6 premiere reveals that Aunt Polly was killed off-screen by the Irish Republican Army during the attempted assassination of Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin) in the Season 5 finale.
