The first Marian apparition of Fatima – May 13th 1917:
The rosary in the Shrine of Fatima
The prayer of the rosary marks the prayerful rhythm of the Shrine of Fatima since its beginning and continues to give voice to the prayers of the pilgrims who, through the meditation of the mysteries of the life of Christ, are configured to him, in the company of the Virgin Mother.
The three secrets of Fatima are the prophecies or messages given by Our Lady to the three shepherd children, Lucia dos Santos, Fancisco and Jacinta Marto; during her apparitions in 1917.
The Blessed Virgin Mary made these promises to Saint Dominic and to all who follow that “Whatever you ask in the Rosary will be granted.” 1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces.
She made this evident in a brief communiqué to Pope Paul VI on May 13, 1965, at Fatima. According to Lúcia: The message of Our Lady of peace, mercy and supplication: In May 1917 Our Lady said: 'Pray the Rosary every day to obtain peace for the world and for the end of the war.
Our Lady of Fatima repeatedly asked the children, “Say the Rosary every day, to bring peace to the world and an end to the war,” and also, “Make sacrifices for sinners.” In the end, then, it is clear that the Virgin Mary is holding a rosary so as to encourage us to pray the Rosary.
A: As you know the bible does "not" tell us to pray the Rosary because this form of prayer originated only during the middle ages. However, important elements of the Rosary are biblical and/or belong to the common Christian beliefs.
Our Lady herself, most especially in her appearance at Fatima, but also in other apparitions, has begged us to pray the rosary daily. She said that it was essential to bring peace to our families and to our world, and she asked us to pray the rosary to bring an end to war.
After the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Holy Rosary is the prayer most pleasing to Our Lady. Why is it so pleasing to her? Because it brings us closer to Jesus. That is the single most important reason we should pray the Holy Rosary: through it, we grow closer to Our Lord.
In Roman Catholicism the rosary became a popular method of public and private prayer. The most common rosary is the one devoted to Mary, the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin, the prayers of which are recited with the aid of a chaplet, or rosary.
The Fatima message emphasizes central truths and devotions of the Catholic faith: The Blessed Trinity, the Eucharist, penance, the Rosary and sacrifices for the conversion of sinners.
The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated. In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world."
According to one tradition, the rosary's defining moment came during an apparition of Mary to Saint Dominic around the year 1221.
1597 first recorded use of the term "rosary" to refer to prayer beads. 1917 Our Lady of Fatima is said to ask that the Fatima Prayer be added to the Rosary.
At Fatima, Mary asked that we pray the Rosary daily for peace, the conversion of sinners, the Souls in Purgatory and to make the Consecration to her Immaculate Heart with the Devotion of the First Saturday of the Month in reparation for the 5 offences against her Immaculate Heart.
If it is done as a statement of faith or for some other just purpose, hanging rosary beads on the rearview mirror would not violate canon law's requirement that sacramentals be treated with due reverence: Sacred objects, set aside for divine worship by dedication or blessing, are to be treated with reverence.
In Islam the rosary (subḥa) consists of three groups of beads whose total is 100. Each bead represents one of the “most beautiful names of God,” and the rosary serves to count these names. The rosary is also used in an act of prayer and is carried by all classes of Muslims, especially pilgrims.
Ten has the meaning of totality and unity, meaning that each one of Christ's mysteries is part of his total person and work and expresses its unity and totality, as well as its thorough contemplation by the person who says this decade of the rosary.
It simply means we turn to her for prayers, something all Christians do when they ask for prayers from their brothers and sisters. So, when Catholics “pray” to Mary, we're not praying in the same way as we pray to God. We're asking for her intercession, the way we ask our brothers and sisters for prayers.
According to Catholic tradition, the rosary was instituted by the Blessed Virgin Mary herself. In the 13th century, she is said to have appeared to St. Dominic (founder of the Dominicans), given him a rosary, and asked that Christians pray the Hail Mary, Our Father and Glory Be prayers instead of the Psalms.
Catholics do not pray to Mary as if she were God. Prayer to Mary is memory of the great mysteries of our faith (Incarnation, Redemption through Christ in the rosary), praise to God for the wonderful things he has done in and through one of his creatures (Hail Mary) and intercession (second half of the Hail Mary).
Should we refrain from doing that?” The simple answer to your question is “Yes, you should refrain from praying to Mary and to the saints.” Catholics pray to Mary (or to the saints) because, like the rest of us, they recognize their need for someone to help them bring their requests to a holy God.
A popular German religious manual of the fifteenth century ("Der Selen Troïst", 1474) even divides the Hail Mary into four portions, and declares that the first part was composed by the Angel Gabriel, the second by St. Elizabeth, the third, consisting only of the Sacred Name.
Rosaries are a very special symbol and prayer guide for Catholics, Anglicans and Lutherans. They are not meant to be worn around the neck; they are meant to be held and prayed with. Each bead symbolizes a prayer, and "saying the rosary" takes quite a bit of time.
