In hotter weather, cargo shorts and khakis, are a good option. Some female truck drivers have worn skorts or golf skirts while driving. Nice golf shirts, collared or crew neck t-shirts can be worn.
Many truckers invest in long underwear, scarves, and thick socks to help them stay warm. Having a weather-resistant jacket and a few sweaters handy is also a good idea. Even though you are dressing in layers, make sure that you are still comfortable in the cab and that your outfit doesn't restrict movement.
Irregular Pay
Most trucking companies will pay their drivers by the mile; and with irregular routes, it can be difficult to know exactly what your take-home pay will be for each pay period. It also means that when you are stuck waiting for things like traffic or loading and unloading, you aren't getting paid.
When you're moving in and around trucks and docks, or driving a refrigerated truck where you handle the unloading, there are all sorts of hazards for your feet. Any shoe that doesn't secure to the heel in some way can cause interference with braking or accelerating. These kinds of shoes can also slip off and become stuck under a pedal, affecting your ability to drive safely.
Some may swear that driving in heels works better for them, while others aren't fussed by wearing chunky-soled shoes. Sneakers, tennis shoes or sand shoes are generally considered the best option. A thin-soled shoes has the added benefit of giving you more feel, too.
