An analysis of the jobs held by the resident population in Australia in 2021 shows the three most popular occupations were: Professionals (2,886,920 people or 24.0%) Managers (1,645,776 people or 13.7%) Technicians and Trades Workers (1,554,315 people or 12.9%)
Government, professional, and personal service
There are as many Australians in government offices or in the various service occupations—lawyers, domestic help, teachers, entertainers, physicians, beauticians, morticians, and so on—as are on the land.
Information from the 2021 census, released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) today, found that health care, retail, construction and education employed the most people across Australia.
Widely spread over the country
Figure 5 shows the majority of Australia's population (67%) housed in the capital cities, with two in five living in metropolitan Sydney and Melbourne. Over the last decade, the population increased more in the capital cities compared to regional areas (17% cf. 11%).

The main source of income for most Australians was employee wages or salary (56.4% of people aged 15 years and over), while 23.4% received most of their income from government benefits and allowances. The age pension was the most common government benefit received (32.9%).
'Life-saving' professions like firefighters, doctors and police officers have come out on top for men, with builders and mechanics following closely behind. On the other hand, 'care-giving' roles like flight attendants, nurses and secretaries lead the charge for 'sexiest' feminine occupations.

Making the most of the coastline

Brisbane, the Gold Coast and coastal areas of south-east Queensland, up to Bundaberg, all recorded net population in-flows. Overall, close to a net 87,000 Australians moved to Queensland between June 2020 and June 2022.
Well, it's not quite everyone, but Census data released this week reveals in the five years to 2021, more people moved to Queensland from within Australia than any other state or territory.
