This is evidenced by passages such as Psalm 71:18, which says "Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come." Youth and adults may need assistance choosing a righteous path, and your experience can guide them.
Those that are experiencing illness or pain in their aging process may find strength in the fact that even in old age, God is there. Isaiah 46:4 reads, “And I will still be carrying you when you are old. Your hair will turn gray, and I will still carry you. I made you, and I will carry you to safety.”
Application of standard text-critical tools to the difficult Ps 90:10 results in the interpretation: The days of our vigor [are] seventy years, [or] Our years with might [are] eighty years, And their pride [is] vexation and sorrow.
ISAIAH 54:10 AND PSALM 46:1
In Psalm 46:1, seniors are further reminded that God is always with them, no matter what: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Both of these verses remind seniors that no matter how bad things get, they can lean on the Lord for strength and guidance.
And later in the New Testament, in Hebrews 7:25, seniors are reminded that Jesus intercedes for them at all times, not just temporarily, and holds them in prayer. Consequently, He is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
The Bible does not have any specific ruling on minimum or maximum age. Marriage is a serious issue and a lifetime covenant between two people. And whether the man is older than the woman or vice versa, is not given much attention in the Bible.
For those who belong to the LORD JESUS CHRIST, God promises IRREVOCABLY LONGEVITY OF LIFE. Psalm 91:16 “WITH LONG LIFE I WILL SATISFY HIM, and shew him my salvation.” Long life is God's covenant heritage for all believers. Longevity is our irrevocable inheritance through the sacrifice of JESUS on the Cross.
The Psalmist knows he needs God even more as he gets older (vv. 9, 18): “Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent… So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me.” God promises to be with you each step of life's journey.
Isaiah 46:4 New Century Version (NCV)
Even when you are old, I will be the same. Even when your hair has turned gray, I will take care of you. I made you and will take care of you.
Nowhere in the Bible does it mention we should stop working. This doesn't mean that you need to work until you die, but that the type of work you will do later in life is different. Retirement is not a Biblical concept, but a cultural concept. If the Lord gives you breath, it is because He still has work for you to do.
Abstract. When mankind had become corrupted in the period preceding the flood, God said: 'My spirit shall not abide in man for ever, for he is flesh; his days shall be a hundred and twenty years' (Gen. 6:3).
With the patriarchs living such long lives (Adam 930 years, Seth 912, Enos 905, Cainan 910, Mahalaleel 895, Jared 962, Enoch 365 not out, Methuselah 969, Lamech 777, Noah 950 - Genesis c5 & c9), the ancients could stand a lot of infant mortality and still have an average span of 70. John Gill, Heswall, Wirral.
Moses was told by God to select 70 elders to receive some of the Holy Spirit conferred on him and to share with him the burden of ruling the people of Israel. The story illustrates the task of the 36 members of the council who met in the Council Chamber (Vroedschapskamer).
The idea of aging with grace has multiple definitions. It's different for everyone: presence, elegance, refinement, and ease are a few qualities associated with aging. To achieve a state of grace is to achieve a healthy, well-balanced life full of joy and respect.
Studies show that older people say they have higher self-esteem, better emotional stability, and a more positive outlook on life than younger people. From middle age and older, adults are more able to use both hemispheres of their brain at the same time.
For instance, Jesus said, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished” (Matthew 5:17–19).
EPHESIANS 5:27 – That He might present to Himself the church In all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.
“If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we belong to God.”
Proverbs 16:31-33 New International Version (NIV)
Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained in the way of righteousness.
2 Corinthians 5:17 American Standard Version (ASV)
Wherefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new.
Life is truly a gift from God. God is the Creator and Sustainer of all life. God is “pro-life” and as His faithful, Bible-believing followers, so are we!
That's why biblically speaking, living a long life on earth is not considered a curse but a blessing (Ex. 20:12), even with the ailments of old age. And It's God's favor that we live long enough to see our children's children (Ps. 128:6).
In this sense, elder was an approximate term in Israel, not strictly linked to a particular age — though a case can be made for 30 as a minimum. Cornelis Van Dam says we get “the impression that the age of thirty was the minimum. However, Scripture gives no specifically prescribed age for this office” (The Elder, 29).
At what age do we begin to be accountable to Heavenly Father for what we do? (Eight.) Explain that because Heavenly Father knows we are old enough to be responsible for our actions, he allows something important to take place when we are eight.
