Daily Blessings. “When you lie down, you will not be afraid, when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet” (Proverbs 3:24).
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; For the LORD will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught.
Psalm 33:8
You can rest without worry or fear—all night—because while you rest God is watching over you. He is mighty and powerful, and he works all things for good for those who love him.
Proverbs 20:13 New Century Version (NCV)
If you love to sleep, you will be poor. If you stay awake, you will have plenty of food.
Good sleep protects our health, boosts our immune system, and helps our bodies and brains restore themselves. Most of us live in places where we can lock our doors at night and sleep in relative peace without fear of harm. It's a blessing we often take for granted.
Allah Almighty has mentioned the importance of sleep in the Quran. And He it is Who made the night a covering for you, and made sleep a rest, and made the day a time of getting up (Al Quran).
God created sleep to help us recover, to recharge for the day ahead, and as an opportunity to rest. Sleep is essential for good long-term health, a good mood, and our overall physical fitness. We can have too much of it of course and the Bible warns against laziness, sloth, and avoiding work.
Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
When the Bible uses the language of “sleeping” to describe those who have died, it does not mean that they are in a state of unconsciousness. We do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep. ( 1 Thes. 4:13)
“If you are obsessed with sleeping or have an intense desire to stay in bed, you could be suffering from a condition called clinomania. That doesn't mean that there aren't people who can experience symptoms similar to addiction and even withdrawal in association with sleep, or lack thereof.”
Throughout the night, your heart rate, breathing rate and blood pressure rise and fall, a process that may be important for cardiovascular health. Your body releases hormones during sleep that help repair cells and control the body's use of energy. These hormone changes can affect your body weight.
Dear God, as I lay me down to sleep, relax the tension of my body; calm the restlessness of my mind; still the thoughts which worry and perplex me.
Some Christians will argue that the act of living together before marriage is not a sin itself. Rather, sleeping together or engaging in any sexual activity before marriage is the sin. And some unmarried couples may argue that it's okay to live together if they aren't sleeping together.
Psalms 4:8 in Other Translations
8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety. 8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. 8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O LORD, will keep me safe.
When you are sleeping, your eyes are shut, and your body is in a state of rest/inactivity. If you find yourself getting distracted and perhaps even getting involved with stuff you used to do before you became a Christian, it is likely this is because you are spiritually sleeping.
Spiritual slumber is the situation in which the believer is weak, weary and worn out. At this instance, he is too lazy to pray, fast or engage in Bible study.
Scripture also says that too much sleep may reflect laziness. Consider Proverbs 6:9-11, which asks sarcastically, “How long will you lie there, O sluggard?” and warns that one who sleeps when he should be working will come to poverty.
The Bible addresses anxiety, fear and worry, which are symptoms of stress. The apostle Paul, who endured much stress in his ministry boldly commands, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
God created rest for our benefit, to restore us. We can experience true rest when we spend time in God's presence, praying or reflecting on His Word. As we take time from our busy schedule, we can be still, silent, present, and allow Him to work in us. In the book of Psalms, we discover what resting in God truly means.
Exodus 34:21
Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. In plowing time and in harvest you shall rest.
This is your gentle reminder that one time in the Bible Elijah was like “God, I'm so mad! I want to die!” so God said “Here's some food. Why don't you have a nap?” So Elijah slept, ate, & decided things weren't so bad. Never underestimate the spiritual power of a nap & a snack.
Sleeping less for a long time would impact your physical and mental health. Thus, it is not recommended to sacrifice your sleep to achieve your goals.
Eutychus /ˈjuːtɪkəs/ (Greek: Εὔτυχος) was a young man (or a youth) of Troas tended to by St. Paul. Eutychus fell asleep due to the long nature of the discourse Paul was giving, fell from a window out of the three-story building, and died.
Therefore, while the Creator (Allāh) does not sleep or doze off, His creations, including mankind, need sleep every day. “Nu'ass”: Two verses in the Quran use the word “Nu'ass”. One verse says “Remember when He covered you with a slumber (Nu'ass) as a security from him” [verse 8.11].
3 Surahs we can read before sleeping
Before going to sleep, we can also read the 'Three Quls' (Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas). As narrated by Aisyah r.a. Every night before Rasulullah s.a.w.
