Also known as “Transport Chain,” Grade 70 chain is most commonly used for tie down and load securement applications for trucking and other cargo. While Grade 30 and 43 chain can also be used for load securement, Grade 70 chain provides a stronger, more durable option with a much higher strength-to-weight ratio.
Grade 70. Grade 70 chain is about 20 percent stronger than Grade 43. It is made from heat-treated carbon steel that is incredibly sturdy and durable.
3/8” Grade 70 has a working load of 6,600 Lbs with a 4:1 safety factor. 3/8” Grade 80 has a working load of 7,100 Lbs with a 4:1 safety factor. Yep, just a 7% gain in strength going from Grade 70 to 80.
Uncute Grade Chain 70 has a working load limit between 3,150 to 15,800 lbs. They're typically used by truckers and loggers for load securement and towing jobs, and have thus earned the nicknames of Transport and Trucker chain!
Grade 100 chains are the strongest among readily available chains. Their strength-to-weight ratio is about 25% higher than grade 80 chains'. Most of the time, a grade 80 will suffice. However, you may need a grade 100 if the chain's application is heavily concerned with the strength-to-weight ratio.
Grade 100. A high strength, heat-treated alloy chain. Primarily used as a sling component for overhead lifting. Has approximately 25 percent higher strength than Grade 80.
Chain Grade 100
Like grade 80, grade 100 is alloy steel and can be used in virtually any industrial application including, but not limited to, overhead lifting. Depending on the width of the link, grade 100 chain carries a working load limit of 4,300 to 22,600 pounds.
Grades 70, 80, and 100 are among the hardest and toughest available.
Grade 70 Transportation Chain
G70 chain is the rigging chain of choice in the trucking and transportation industry and is used as tie-downs on over-the-road trailers. Grade 70 steel rigging chain is not approved for overhead lifting and is never to be used for such.
Grade-70 Tow Chain is a high-strength carbon steel chain that is ideal for securing cargo, recovering vehicles and removing tree stumps.
Grade 70 Transport Chain, Short Link, Size 3/8 in., Working Load Limit 6,600 lbs., Part No. 608941. Chain Size: 3/8 in. Inside Length: 1.14 in.
G70 chains are made from a higher strength, heat-treated carbon steel and have a load rating approximately 20 percent higher than Grade 43. The gold chromate coating offers them more resistance to rust and corrosion. These chains have become the most common grade of chain used on flatbeds.
Grade 70 Chain
Also known as "trucker's chain," people use grade 70 as tie-downs on over-the-road trailers. Never use this chain for overhead lifting. This type generally features a gold chromate finish so it's easy to recognize. It also meets California Highway Patrol and DOT requirements.
In most cases, either Grade 100 or Grade 80 chain can be used for the application. The only situation in which Grade 100 chain may be necessary is if the application is heavily concerned with the strength-to-weight ratio of the lifting sling, as Grade 100 chain slings have the advantage there.
Grade 120 chain was specifically designed to for extreme overhead lifting applications. Grade 120 Chain is an ultra-premium quality high strength alloy steel. Grade 120 Chain has a 50 percent increase in working load limit as compared to a similar size chain in Grade 80.
Grade 70. Approximately 25% stronger than Grade 43, Grade 70 is ideal for securing and towing large or heavy loads for road transport applications in the trucking, logging, and highway construction industries. Grade 80.
Grade 120 Chain
With the strongest tensile strength in the industry, grade 120 chains can absolutely handle overhead lifting. Its square link design increases the contact between the bearing surfaces and links, which overall reduces the chain's pressure.
To help identify the grade and manufacturer all of our Grade 80 Chain is embossed with”L10”. The L is the chain manufacturer Laclede. The 10 identifies this as a Grade 100 Chain. On sizes 3/4", 7/8” and 1” grade 100 chain ) it will be embossed with P10 or P100.
The Grade 100 standard for chain slings is among the latest entries to the chain sling market – and is widely used as a better replacement for Grade 80 slings. Thanks to its 25% higher workload limit, Grade 100 chains are ideal for overhead lifting as well as to secure loads with a smaller chain size.
Specifications. Working load limit: 6,600 lbs. Assembly break strength: 26,400 lbs. Product weight: 29.1 lbs.
This lifting chain has a working load limit (WLL) up to 15,000 lbs. 10 feet of 1/2" heavy duty lifting chain is great for making slings or other overhead lifting applications. Overhead lifting chain should be used in accordance with OSHA guidelines.
Made from quenched and tempered alloy steel. Only Grades 80 , 100, and 120 should be used for overhead lifting. Finish: powder coat, painted, shot blast, self colored.
