There are times when a mechanic will spray water into a carb while the engine is running, but that is to help reduce carbon in the cylinders.
There is no doubt that water turned to steam, can clean and break down carbon. Witness the simple steam cleaner which is effective just with the power of steam. Our service is not a one size fits all. Different engines and fuel systems have different issues.
Rinse and dry.
Rinse all carburetor components in a bucket of clean water, and allow to air dry completely. For small holes and vents, use a can of compressed air to remove any excess moisture.
Deposits inside the carburetor can clog fuel and air passages and reduce performance or stop the engine altogether. Luckily, you can take care of many of these problems quickly and easily; often without even removing the carburetor from the engine.
On the other hand, WD-40 is safe for your device and allows you to clean the carburettor, throttle body, as well as unpainted metal parts of the machine. The dual-action cleaning system of the liquid leaves no stone unturned to provide you with a clean carburettor.
Backfiring or overheating
Engine backfiring and overheating are other common symptoms of a potential problem with the carburetor. If the carburetor has any sort of issue that results in it delivering a lean mixture, a mixture that does not have enough fuel, it may result in engine backfiring or overheating.
While the engine is running at the correct operating temperature, Increasing the engine RPMs helps the motor to burn-off carbon buildup within. The use of specialized fuel additives and fuel treatments will also aid the engine in removing these deposits.
Gumout® High Mileage Fuel Injector Cleaner is specially formulated to remove carbon deposits from engines with over 75,000 miles for restored engine performance and fuel economy.
The methanol found inside the brake and parts cleaner is the only ingredient separating the two cleaners. This is an important difference because carburetors feature rubber materials and methanol can cause these to deteriorate and swell.
A much better solution is to use some WD-40 Multi-Use Product. Most people don't know that WD-40 can solve many of their household cleaning needs quickly and easily. When cleaning a toilet bowl, WD-40 works by softening the rust and lime deposits, so they can be easily wiped away.
One of the most telling symptoms of a bad carburetor is hesitation when accelerating. This is typically the result of a lean fuel mixture, which means too much air and not enough fuel.
A rich fuel mixture (too much fuel for the amount of air in the cylinder) can cause an engine to load up at idle, foul the spark plugs, and also lack power or run sluggish.
