40 “A man who has lost his hair and is bald is clean. 41 If he has lost his hair from the front of his scalp and has a bald forehead, he is clean. 42 But if he has a reddish-white sore on his bald head or forehead, it is a defiling disease breaking out on his head or forehead.
Best passage of the day: Leviticus interrupts these dire leprous warnings to reassure men that, yes, it's OK to be bald. “If a man loses the hair of his head and becomes bald, he is pure.” And it gets better! God also approves of male-pattern baldness.
Therefore, it would seem that baldness can sometimes represent leadership or over-the-top manliness. Studies have indeed shown that bald men are often viewed as stronger and more masculine than their floppy haired counterparts, providing evidence for this rather more positive theory.
In this context, the baldness of Elisha suggests that the prophet's body—and thus the prophet—does not meet the norms of embodiment. Elisha's bald head may even function like Moses' heavy tongue—a deformity or disability that pushes the prophet to the margins of normative embodiment (Graybill: 41–45).

Delilah, however, persists and Samson finally capitulates and tells Delilah that God supplies his power because of his consecration to God as a Nazirite, symbolized by the fact that a razor has never touched his head, and that if his hair is cut off he will lose his strength.
It can be the result of heredity, hormonal changes, medical conditions or a normal part of aging. Anyone can lose hair on their head, but it's more common in men. Baldness typically refers to excessive hair loss from your scalp. Hereditary hair loss with age is the most common cause of baldness.
A major reason why men suffer from male pattern baldness, known as androgenetic alopecia, is a genetic sensitivity to dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. The body's responses to DHT might influence the risk of illnesses, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, obesity and prostate cell growth.
Hair loss and thinning hair is enough reason to shave your head if you want to hide your hair situation. A smooth bald shave is much better than outgrowing hair around bald patches. Shaving the head is the easiest thing to do and easier than trying to cover up bald spots.
The significance of hair is woven throughout the Old and New testaments. In ancient Israel, hair signified important features of identity with respect to gender, ethnicity and holiness, said Susan Niditch, author of, “My brother Esau is a Hairy Man: Hair and Identity in Ancient Israel.”
Paul's expectation was that women would have uncut hair that grows however long nature has determined, and that men would have cut hair that did not 'cover' their heads and thus is distinctly masculine.”
Samson's true love and downfall, Delilah, was sent by the Philistines to destroy him. With his heart on the line, Samson lost his hair and strength.
A Short Prayer for Hair Growth
God, I don't want to lose all my hair. It's already thinning out and I'm exploring products to help thicken what I've got. I know it might seem vain, but I pray to you to enable my scalp to grow hair and not lose anymore hair from my head. I ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.
They are aware of the admonition in Ezekiel 44:20: “Neither shall they shave their heads, nor suffer their locks to grow long ….” The only exception for long hair for men was during Old Testament times when a man took a Nazarite vow. This represented subjection to God for a specific time (Numbers 6:5).
And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows” (Matthew 10:26–31 NIV).
Japanese researchers found that men who suffered hair loss from both the front and the crowns of their heads had a 69 percent higher risk of a non-fatal heart attack compared to those with a full head of hair.
Low self-esteem
Due to fixed mindsets and baldness stigma of many people, bald people usually get mocked or laughed at, which can be disheartening for them. People also experience a lack of self-confidence and low self-esteem due to this. Jokes on bald people make them self-conscious.
While higher testosterone levels drive more obvious baldness in men, female hair loss happens when a woman who is genetically predisposed to the condition is exposed to androgens – predominantly male hormones that also exist in women.
Male pattern baldness tends to develop slowly
Treatment can reduce further hair loss, and some men regrow a bit of their hair. The men who tend to see the best results start treatment soon after noticing hair loss. Here's what's available to treat androgenetic alopecia (the medical name for this type of hair loss).
The X or female chromosome carries the primary baldness gene, and men inherit this X chromosome from their mothers. This makes the hereditary factor around baldness most dominant on your mother's side.
Only riboflavin, biotin, folate, and vitamin B12 deficiencies have been associated with hair loss.
So Jesus, as a philosopher with the "natural" look, might well have had a short beard, like the men depicted on Judaea Capta coinage, but his hair was probably not very long.
Samson, Hebrew Shimshon, legendary Israelite warrior and judge, or divinely inspired leader, renowned for the prodigious strength that he derived from his uncut hair. He is portrayed in the biblical Book of Judges (chapters 13–16).
In some religions, hair is viewed as a symbol of spiritual purity and is left uncut. In other religions, like Sikhism, the hair is considered sacred and is never cut. Hairstyles can have religious significance, such as the hijab worn by Muslim women.
