He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”
Ask the Lord for Healing
A personal relationship with Him and His community of faith is where healing from emotional trauma begins. There are countless stories of emotional trauma in the Bible. David struggled with troubling thoughts and despair (Psalm 38:4). Elijah was discouraged and worn down (1 Kings 19:4).
Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” The Good News: Even when you're in low spirits, God still loves you.
Here is what the Scripture says: God is just. He will punish through everlasting destruction and those who are so punished will be shut out from the presence of the Lord, forever. This will happen when Jesus Christ is revealed. This is one of the hardest truths in the Bible.
Isaiah 49:13 proclaims: “… the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.” Jesus promises in Matthew 5:4: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” When your heart is broken by sorrow, you can invite God's love into the cracks that have broken open – and you'll grow more ...

Psalm 40:1-3
In this, and other Scriptures for depression, we're reminded that God is always near to the brokenhearted. No matter how deep the pit of despair you're in, God can lift you out. Just as He did for David, God can set you back on a path towards hope and He will steady you whenever you start to stumble.
I want to assure you that emotional healing is possible. As a therapist, I see people make remarkable recoveries, becoming healthy, happy, and more fully themselves often in ways they never imagined. But, its true, not everyone returns to emotional health.
Prayer for Emotional Healing and Joyful Strength
Lord, I don't know what I am doing wrong, but I do not feel joy nor strength. Please come and intervene in my life and help me overcome my sorrow and debilitating thoughts. I pray You grant me your joy in abundance as I walk this path to emotional healing. Amen.
The five stages of healing – denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance – provide a framework for understanding the emotional journey of healing.

The Bible teaches that unselfish love is the basis for true forgiveness, since “it keeps no record of wrongs” (1 Corinthians 13:5). Forgiving others means letting go of resentment and giving up any claim to be compensated for the hurt or loss we have suffered.

“Bless those who persecute you. Don't curse them; pray that God will bless them” (Romans 12:14, NLT). If I'm honest, this verse is hard to swallow, especially when I've been really hurt.
