[16] Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it is thy brother's nakedness. [17] Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness.
For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
1 Peter 3:3-4
Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.
Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together. Make tassels on the four corners of the cloak you wear.
The great sin of immodesty is that we're saying, “look at me” instead of “look at God.” God's Word instructs us to dress modestly, in part, so that what we're wearing on our hearts remains visible because it is of greater worth than those awesome new flared jeans! So, yes. God does care what you wear on your body.
Our bodies are so important that the Lord calls them temples of God (see 1 Corinthians 3:16–17; 6:19–20). Our bodies are holy. Because our bodies are important, our Father in Heaven wants us to take good care of them. He knows that we can be happier, better people if we are healthy.
Modesty is an attitude of humility and decency in dress, grooming, language, and behavior. If you are modest, you do not draw undue attention to yourself. Instead, you seek to “glorify God in your body, and in your spirit” (1 Corinthians 6:20; see also verse 19).
1 Peter 3:3-4
"Don't try to make yourselves beautiful on the outside, with stylish hair or by wearing gold jewelry or fine clothes. Instead, make yourselves beautiful on the inside, in your hearts, with the enduring quality of a gentle, peaceful spirit. This type of beauty is very precious in God's eyes."
Whosoever, then, looketh on a woman to lust after her, that is, so looks on her as to lust, and cast about to obtain, he is rightly said to commit adultery with her in his heart.
Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.
Jesus told us, “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5). Indeed, one of the hallmarks of a strong leader is a thick skin (i.e. the ability to shrug off unfounded criticisms and move on to do what is right).
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 In-Context
19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
It is a matter of the heart and the Christian couple's intentions. Kissing in and of itself is not sin, yet if it would lead one or both of the Christians to fall into temptation, it should not be practiced.
Proverbs 11:22-23 New Living Translation (NLT)
A beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig's snout. The godly can look forward to a reward, while the wicked can expect only judgment.
Ephesians 5:25 (NIV)
“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." Husbands and wives are called to love one another and treat one another well. This is one of the Bible verses about love that remind couples to look to Christ's example for how to love.
Proverbs 5:18b says “…and rejoice with the wife of your youth.” Verse 19b says, “… Let her breast satisfy you at all times.” This scripture does not say that it is the breasts of only a young girl that gives a man satisfaction.
God cares about our hearts and our inner beauty, but He is not indifferent to outer beauty and expert craftsmanship. The Tabernacle, Ark, and Temple—the three Old Testament structures that served as God's symbolic dwelling place—were all designed by God Himself.
1 Peter 3:3-5 tells us that our beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.
Matthew 6:25-34 Amplified Bible (AMP)
“Therefore I tell you, stop being worried or anxious (perpetually uneasy, distracted) about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing?
“Immodest clothing includes short shorts and skirts, tight clothing, shirts that do not cover the stomach, and other revealing attire. Young women should wear clothing that covers the shoulder and avoid clothing that is low-cut in the front or the back or revealing in any other manner.
Modest fashion is about being comfortable in your skin. It's about allowing your natural self to come out and shine. People who dress modestly are often surprised by how comfortable their attire makes them feel. From your innermost being, you'll feel confident and secure.
A physical body is given to each of us by our loving Heavenly Father. He created it as a tabernacle for our spirit to assist each of us in our quest to fulfill the full measure of our creation. Our bodies allow each of us to experience the great plan of salvation that He has designed for all His children.
And nor are our bodies spiritually irrelevant. Paul can describe them no less than as 'a temple of the Holy Spirit' (1 Corinthians 6:19). Moreover, they are part of God's plan for our eternal future. As we wait for the age to come, we look forward to 'the redemption of our bodies' (Romans 8:23).
As Christians, we already know that we are to avoid sexual immorality and to avoid situations that would cause us to be tempted into sexual sin. Sleeping in the same bed would not be wise as it could easily cause sexual sin.
