The name Voldemort is derived from the French vol de mort which means "flight of death" or "theft of death".
J.K. Rowling has said that she invented the name Voldemort, and its French origins – 'vol' means, variously, 'flight' or 'theft'; 'de' means 'of' or 'from'; and 'mort' means 'death' – give it a sinister backstory entirely in keeping with Voldemort's image.
The name "Voldemort", roughly translated, means "flight of death" in Latin, French and Catalan, or "steal death" in French. Voldemort is so feared in the Wizarding world that his name is considered to be ineffable.
In 1997, Voldemort became in charge of the British Ministry of Magic and ensured that no one could speak his name. If a character said the name, they would be considered rule breakers who needed to be punished, and Voldemort ensured that his Death Eaters would find that person quickly.
Voldemort was born Tom Marvolo Riddle on December 31, 1926. "I am Lord Voldemort" is an anagram of "Tom Marvolo Riddle". (See "name and anagram" below.) He began to assume the identity of 'Lord Voldemort' during his latter years at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, using the title amongst his close "friends".
Severus Snape spent the majority of his life in love with Lily Potter. It is easy to understand why Snape, who had an unhappy homelife as a child, fell hard for the first person to show him love and kindness.
The biggest revelation in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was that Lord Voldemort had a daughter with Bellatrix Lestrange, who was named Delphini.
Hermione did not grow up in the wizarding world but she did hear and also read a lot about Voldemort and his death eaters. This is why she was afraid to say his name. But Hermione is the first of Harry's friends to use Voldemort's name. She begins to use it in the fifth book.
Throughout the series, Rowling establishes that Voldemort is so feared in the wizarding world that it is considered dangerous even to speak his name.
Some would say there's no spell worse than Avada Kedavra, the Killing Curse that Voldemort used so indiscriminately.
Draco Malfoy
By no means a dramatic coincidence, Draco's first name is Latin for a terrifying beast that spits fire – or, more specifically, a dragon. You may have noticed that Draco's name is also part of the Hogwarts school motto: 'Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus' – which means 'Never tickle a sleeping dragon'.
' as Voldemort screamed, 'Avada Kedavra! ' he was giving all those around him the message he gave Lupin: this was about ending bloodshed, not creating it. Voldemort's signature spell was Avada Kedavra. Harry's was Expelliarmus.
The origin of the spell 'Avada Kedavra' is from a popular Aramaic saying “Let the thing be destroyed”. It is an extremely dark spell used to kill people.
The Malfoy name comes from old French and translates as 'bad faith'. Like many other progenitors of noble English families, the wizard Armand Malfoy arrived in Britain with William the Conqueror as part of the invading Norman army.
Dumbledore's name stays the same.
In English, "dumbledore" is a regional expression that means "bumblebee." In French, "bumblebee is "bourdon," but Ménard didn't think "Professor Bourdon" had the same sense of gravity to it. As a result, he decided to keep the headmaster's name the way it was.
"Rogue" actually means "Snape" in French. Longdubat would mean "long from bottom" so quite an accurate translation. Lard is pork fat, so it can be found in Hogwarts' translation (PoudLARD) and Hogsmeade's translation (Pre-au-Lard).
Though Harry encountered many opportunities that deemed Avada Kedavra necessary, it remains as one of the Unforgivable Curses Harry Potter never cast. For one, he viewed the spell as an immoral practice commonly used by users of the Dark Arts.
“Call him Voldemort, Harry. Always use the proper name for things. Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself.”
Why is Sirius' nickname for Hermione “kitten”
During that time, he subjected thousands to death, torture, and despair. Nobody but Harry is able to defeat him, though, meaning he is never incarcerated. Voldemort would have probably had the magical prowess to escape anyway, particularly if Sirius Black can do it.
Voldemort thought Snape was the owner of the Elder Wand. Using Avada Kedavra while the Elder Wand was resisting Voldemort was already a risky business, but using it against the true owner would be suicide (as Voldemort would find out when he used the Elder Wand against its true owner: Harry).
Dumbledore is trying to ascertain whether Harry will be entirely focused on the tasks that Dumbledore has planned for him throughout the year. Being in love might cloud Harry's judgement, or cause him to split his time and energy between a partner and getting that memory from Slughorn.
She married Rodolphus Lestrange after leaving Hogwarts "because it was expected of her" to marry a pure-blood. However, Rowling stated in an interview that Bellatrix truly loved Voldemort.
"The Lestranges should be here," said Voldemort quietly. In short Lord Voldemort was the sperm donor for the Lestranges as Bella's husband Rodolphus Lestrange was firing blanks. Hence why they had no child so Lord Voldemort said he would father a child with Bellatrix to help out his best deatheater friends.
After Voldemort's death in 1998, Delphi became Salazar Slytherin's last known heir.
