Tuna is so strikingly similar to beef (despite being a fish) that we highly recommend it to all our beef steak fans. In this feature we're going to deep dive into Tuna and understand more about this wonderful fish, what to look for if you're eating out and how to cook a Tuna steak if you want to eat in.
Swordfish is a mighty, meaty fish: eat it grilled and you'll almost feel like you're biting into a steak. Even non-fish-eaters tend to enjoy a good cut of swordfish, whose taste is somewhat similar to tuna.
Swordfish
It's a mild-tasting, firm, meaty fish that holds up great on the grill. You'll find this fish sold as steaks — cook it whole or cut it up and skewer it.
Mahi mahi, cod, tilapia are three I like. All have a very mild flavor that is much like chicken in taste and flaky white meat.
“White” fish is white both before and after cooking, whereas fattier fish (e.g., salmon and tuna) are red before cooking and turn either white (tuna) or remain pink (salmon) after cooking.
Summary: Consumers will gain a health benefit from substituting part of the red and processed meat in their diet with fish, according to new calculations. Men over 50 and women of childbearing age in particular would benefit from such a change in diet.
Tuna steak is a great alternative to beef steaks (especially when you binge on beef like I do). It's a light, tasty meat that melts in your mouth and it's fishy only in the sense that it tastes an awful lot like beef.
Beans. Most kinds of beans — black, red, chickpea — are excellent as meat substitutes. They mash easily into burgers, sandwiches, and lasagnas.

Cholesterol and saturated fat can raise your blood cholesterol and make heart disease worse. Chicken and fish have less saturated fat than most red meat.
Tilapia – tilapia is arguably the mildest tasting fish there is. It's not fishy at all and has a mild sweetness. Tilapia is easy to prepare and goes well with a variety of different flavor profiles. Cod – cod has a mild flavor that's slightly sweet like tilapia.
Protein rich plant foods
Some whole foods, such as beans, lentils, chickpeas, and mushrooms, contain protein or have a meaty texture and can work well as meat substitutes. Food manufacturers often include these types of food in their vegetarian and vegan products.
Monkfish is groundfish, meaning it swims and feeds along the bottom of the ocean. It's known to some as "the poor man's lobster" because of its firm, sweet, and delicious taste similar to lobster tails, and to some as "all mouth", because most of the fish is taken up by the head and most of the head is mouth.
And so, like beef, tuna is also made of primarily red meat, making it taste more like a beef burger and less like a piece of freshly caught salmon. In fact, while you may be hesitant to eat a tuna filet with a dark center, the darker red your tuna is, the more flavor it will have.
Worst: Orange Roughy
These fish, also known as slimeheads, can live up to 150 years. But that means they've been around unhealthy elements, like mercury, for a long time. So they're not the best option for a healthy diet.
Cured meats, cold cuts, salami, and hot dogs are just a few examples of processed meats to limit or avoid. Scientific consensus confirms that eating large amounts of these processed meats will raise your risk of colon cancer. These meats are often high in both sodium and saturated fats, Malkani says.
Trading out your red meat consumption with wild-caught seafood from well-managed fisheries is also a great way to pursue an earth-friendly and sustainable diet. While you're never going to find the exact substitute for bacon, be bold and experiment with salmon strips.
