He is the anthropomorphic embodiment of dreams, hence the name. He is one of the most powerful beings in the universe and, like his other siblings in the Endless, is immortal. If Dream is killed in any way, his essence will simply fuse with another being and continue on.
If one of the Endless is destroyed, then he or she will be replaced by another aspect of their role, but this does not occur if they are simply absent or inactive. In such cases, the aspect of existence supervised by that member of the Endless becomes more random and chaotic.
And all that was part of a long game to take Dream out of the picture. While the Endless are almost all-powerful, they cannot harm humans who are not threats to their kingdoms. The Endless are also forbidden from spilling their family's blood. If they break these rules, they risk their own destruction.
The obvious answer is his sister, Death. When the Furies come to avenge the death of his son, Orpheus, at Lyta Hall's urgings, Morpheus is placed into checkmate. He had to momentarily leave his kingdom and source of power, the Dreaming, to fulfill a promise to the faerie, Nuala.
However, despite his unassuming appearance as a skinny Goth, Dream of the Endless is far more powerful than Superman and easily one of the most powerful beings in the DC Comics multiverse.
7. Delirium. The least powerful of the Endless is poor Delirium, who was once Delight.
Destiny – The eldest of the Endless, he is chained to a large tome known as the Cosmic Log, which contains the sum of all existence in its pages. He is much like his book, possessed of unshakable certainty and equanimity but lacking any ability to change or be spontaneous.
Death is the second eldest of the Endless, a family of beings that personify natural forces.
The Endless are said to be older than the fairy-folk, gods, and other supernatural beings. Their exact ages in years are unknown, but they are known to have existed long before life on Earth; Destruction says that he has performed his duties—not counting the previous three centuries—for 10 billion years.
He is one of the most powerful beings in the universe and, like his other siblings in the Endless, is immortal. If Dream is killed in any way, his essence will simply fuse with another being and continue on.
If Dream had killed Rose he would have killed his own kin, and thus brought the Kindly Ones down on his head. Dream warned Desire to stay out of his affairs and to abandon any plans of destroying him.
Father Time is the personification of Time and rules over his domain. Time is the father to the Endless and with his partner Night, made all of Creation possible. However, in present times, Time and Night are separated and estranged from their families.
In The Sandman universe, Death is the most powerful Endless. The power levels of the siblings are largely related to their age. The older an Endless is, the more powerful they are. However, despite being the second-oldest Endless, Death is said to be their most powerful member.
Morpheus' chief weakness is that his powers are limited by a complex set of rules and customs that qualify how he is allowed to interfere with the running of the universe. One of these rules is that he is not allowed to take a mortal life except to protect the Dreaming and other mortals under his protection.
The Endless are a family of beings who appear in American comic books published by DC Comics. The members of the family include Death, Delirium, Desire, Despair, Destiny, Destruction, and Dream. The Endless characters were created by Neil Gaiman and first appeared in the comic book series The Sandman (1989–1996).
While there are other siblings that have been mentioned and not featured in the series, The Prodigal's absence raises more eyebrows than rest. During Morpheus' pensive walk with sister Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste) the two briefly discuss The Prodigal's whereabouts, with Death confessing that he was still missing.
The Endless: Destruction Is the Missing Prodigal
The Endless, in order of appearance in the universe, are Destiny, Death, Dream, Destruction, twins Desire and Despair, and Delirium, who was once known as Delight.
Dream is without question one of the strongest characters in The Sandman universe thanks to his powerful and varied abilities and also because he is more than willing to act on his power. Dream is so powerful that he is even willing to venture into Hell itself to confront Lucifer Morningstar when the need arises.
By the time he returns the Kindly Ones are in the heart of the Dreaming. Morpheus summons his sister Death, who kills him.
Mother Night is a cosmic being introduced in The Sandman: Overture, the embodiment of the absolute emptiness that predates creation. She is revealed to be the mother of The Endless with her consort, Time.
The reason why Death didn't intervene to help Dream when he was captured is never addressed by The Sandman. Perhaps the obvious reason is that Death, like Dream and the rest of the Endless, is bound by her duties and responsibilities to every living being in the universe.
Death is the second oldest of the Endless and the elder sister of Dream. To the ancient Greeks, she was known as Teleute.
Children of Time and Night, the Endless were born just as the universe was put into motion. Before any human, magical creature, or god existed, the Endless were there as the personification of one of the vital aspects of life.
The Endless are a somewhat dysfunctional family of seven siblings who each represent an aspect of the universe: Dream, Death, Destiny, Despair, Desire, Delirium and Destruction.
That means Destiny is the most powerful and Delirium the weakest. I however think this order of age and power makes more sense: Destiny, Dream, Destruction, Death, Delirium, Desire, then lastly Despair.
