It can lead to bruising. Using any device, whether it's a jade roller or another facial cleansing tool, can lead to bruising if it's done too harshly and with too much pressure.
There's really no right or wrong way to use the jade roller, but it's recommended that you roll in upward strokes from the center outward, applying a medium pressure.
Skin Irritation – Fake rollers are generally made from dyed glass or marble. The chemicals used to make the dye and the fake stones can harm your skin and cause irritation.
"Jade rollers can be a source of bacterial spread if there are any open, infected areas on the skin," she explains. Warning: You should never submerge your roller in water for extended periods of time. You wouldn't do that to your beloved makeup brushes, so don't to it to your roller, either. Soap-wise, your best bet is to use the same cleanser you use to wash your face — that way you'll run no risk of irritation.
Jade is cool to the touch, so if your roller is warm or doesn't cool down quickly after use, it's definitely not jade. However, some of the stones used in fake jade rollers like marble can also be cool to the touch, so temperature isn't always a reliable way to determine if it's fake.
