In the fall finale of Season 16, Bailey suffers a miscarriage.
Less than 20 minutes later in the episode, Bailey realizes she is standing above a small pool of blood. By the time Miranda's husband Ben Warren (Jason George) arrives at his wife's hospital room, it is clear the baby has died.
Joey Phillips is the son of Miranda Bailey and Ben Warren.
Portrayed by. Pruitt Arike Miller is the daughter of Dean Miller and JJ Lau. After Dean's death, she was adopted by Ben Warren and Miranda Bailey.
Although this was a deep and layered storyline, it was diluted in its split and forced audiences to watch both shows to follow the emotions accurately. Eventually, the custody battle ended in favor of Ben and Miranda, and Pru joined Joey as a permanent Bailey-Warren.
Ben was as headstrong as Bailey and they balanced each other out, but she was busy putting herself back together with "tape and glue" after the shooting, so they broke up, following the revelation that Ben was out golfing the day the shooting happened so he wouldn't have memories of that day.
O'Malley weren't enough family presence, Bailey's whiny husband showed up with their kid on a stretcher. Turned out the poor, unspeakably adorable little tyke got smashed by a falling bookcase.
Bailey “got really tired of carrying Grey Sloan on her shoulders” last season, Grey's showrunner Krista Vernoff explained to TVLine recently. “And she made a decision to step away for her sanity and her well-being.”
After Jo and Bailey saved her therapist, Ben arrives frantic about the news she had to give him. He talks a mile a minute until Bailey blurts out her news. Ben is in shock and stays silent while she says she is ready for the challenge. He then jumps for joy and hugs his wife, excited for their new journey.

Meredith holds Bailey's hand and says, “I had a miscarriage once. I never felt so lonely.” (Longtime fans will remember Meredith suffered a miscarriage back in season six, when a shooter went on a rampage in the hospital, injuring Derek and leaving Meredith and Cristina to operate on him at gunpoint.)
After almost a year, Alex receives a call from Meredith saying that she and the kids are fine. It is revealed that Meredith is very pregnant with Derek's baby. Catherine rejects Richard's proposal before he can even ask her.
Meredith at last tells Derek about her miscarriage and is finally cleared to return to her surgical duties in the wake of the hospital shooting spree. Cristina experiences PTSD in the midst of an operation; and Bailey refuses to let Alex operate until he agrees to have the bullet in his chest removed.
Bailey finally decided to put her well-being first after Grey-Sloan's residency program was cut. She quit in the final episode, handing her office keys to Meredith.
Grey's Anatomy has given its hospital a bit of a shake-up as season 19 revealed who the new Chief of Surgery is. After Owen, Bailey, and Meredith all held the position, it is now Kim Raver's Teddy who takes on the prestigious title.
Alex gets his job back while Meredith gets suspended for refusing to let Eliza into her OR. Jo, who spent the day at home, only finds out about Alex later and goes to visit him at Meredith's.
Rhimes later justified the decision of killing Mark instead of letting him go in a different way by saying she “had to do what was right for the integrity of the character”, and this way Lexi and Mark “get to be together, in a way”.
The following morning, Meredith goes out of her way to make Lexie breakfast, which Lexie politely eats despite being allergic to eggs, resulting in her having to be treated at the hospital.
