At the end of “Driftmark,” it looks as though Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen have conspired to kill Rhaenyra's husband, Laenor Velaryon, in order to pave the way for their own marriage.
In George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood, we are told of the incident where Rhaenyra Targaryen's husband Laenor Velaryon dies while attending a fair in Spicetown, on the island of Driftmark. We learn he was “stabbed to death” by a knight in his father's service, his paramour Ser Qarl Quarry.
Rhaenyra and Daemon's Marriage
Their marriage causes a huge scandal at court and another rift between Daemon and Viserys, but it is eventually accepted. The couple has two sons together, Aegon and Viserys. Nearly a decade after their marriage, the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons begins when Viserys I dies.
Rhaenyra and Daemon both know Laenor is alive, and faked his death.
House of the Dragon episode 7 recap: Daemon and Rhaenyra bound in blood. "When he learns in that moment that Viserys never believed in him enough, as his actual heir to the throne, to pass this thing on that he clearly just easily passed on to Rhaenyra, it breaks him.
Yes, at the end of episode 7, Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen got married. The two House of the Dragon characters have enjoyed a flirtatious relationship for years now – please ignore the fact they're niece and uncle – but their passions bubbled over at Laena's funeral, and they finally slept together.
Daemon strangled Rhaenyra because he felt betrayed by Viserys. “It's a moment that I think is surprising and shocking for Daemon as a character, but I also think it's one of those things that's been set up over the course of the entire season.
Those silver-haired freaks went there. Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) and Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) finally had sex on House of the Dragon. After teasing their deep connection for weeks, making out in a brothel, and flirting their way through King's Landing, uncle and niece at long last did the dirty.
Back in her chambers, Rhaenyra's gaze lands on the handsome Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel). After some initial reluctance by Criston, who has much more on the line as a lowborn member of the Kingsguard, Rhaenyra playfully seduces her long-standing crush and they have sex.
Marriage. When King Viserys I Targaryen and his small council sought a husband for Viserys's heir, Rhaenyra Targaryen, they eventually agreed on Laenor, as such a marriage would unite House Targaryen and House Velaryon once again.
The answer is, unfortunately (due to incest), yes. ???? And since then, the vibes between them have ebbed and flowed, but there's definitely always been chemistry. They both married other people, popped out a few kids, but their story is far from over.
After this, when Cole was the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Rhaenyra was arranged to marry Laenor Velaryon. Because of this, Criston Cole confessed his love for her - which she rejected, stating that, as a Targaryen, she was meant for more than being the wife of a sellsword.

As Joffrey tells us, eventually, Rhaenyra's half-brother Aegon Targaryen will feed her to his dragon Sunfyre. She dies as her son, Aegon III, watches. That's the bullet point version. Of course, there's a lot that happens between the end of House of the Dragon season 1 and Rhaenyra's death.
