Aemond killed Rhaenyra's son after a dragon chase through the rain, before which Aemond laughed and tried to cut out Luke's eye. The pursuit culminated in Aemond losing control of his dragon, which brutally chomped Luke and his dragon.
Prosthetic designer confirms: the baby was deformed
The dead girl had been named Visenya. “ The baby was clearly among those rare cases in the Targaryen line, where it was described that an unsuccessful birth had produced a stillborn baby with dragon-like features.
As a result, more devastating and gruesome deaths are to follow, with one of the war's unfortunate victims being Queen Rhaenyra's son Joffrey Velaryon. In Fire & Blood, the source material for House of the Dragon, Joffrey dies when he tries riding Rhaenyra's dragon Syrax out of the Dragonpit and falls off of her.
House of the Dragon's season finale shocked viewers with the horrific death of Queen Rhaenyra's second son Lucerys at the hands of his uncle, Aemond Targaryen, who accidentally caused Luke's death after losing control of his dragon, Vhagar.
But the death of Rhaenyra's son Lucerys at the hands of Aegon's brother Aemond—mistake or not—enraged Rhaenyra and kicked off a civil war that will play out over several seasons. Rhaenyra and her husband Daemon are now scrabbling for allies.
Rhaenyra's three eldest sons all died fighting during the Dance of the Dragons, but her two youngest sons, the sons by her second husband, Prince Daemon, survived the civil war.
In a poetic end to the deadly war, Rhaenyra's son with Daemon became King Aegon III. He was also wed to his cousin, Aegon II's daughter Jaehaera. Their marriage reunited both sides of House Targaryen.
The shock of the loss of her father, combined with the Greens' ruthless betrayal sends her into early labor. Without modern medicine, a baby born so early had very little chance of survival in the best of circumstances - and in these terrible conditions the baby, a girl named Visenya, is stillborn.
Unfortunately, a sudden illness led to his death in 172 AC. Viserys was succeeded by his eldest son, Aegon IV Targaryen. Some historians suspect that Viserys's death was not natural and that Aegon IV had poisoned him.
However, Lucerys was killed by his own uncle, someone he grew up with. Lucerys has been Aemond's archenemy ever since the boy took out his uncle's eye in their childhood. Even as years pass, their bitter enmity only accelerates until Aemond eventually takes his own nephew's life.
He was twelve-years-old at the start of the civil war. He died during the Storming of the Dragonpit trying to ride Syrax, his mother's dragon, in order to save the dragons in the Dragonpit, but the dragon rejected him and he crashed to the ground, dying instantly.
Jacaerys lept free and clung to the smoking wreckage of the ship, but was struck by Myrish crossbow quarrels until he sank into the sea. Driftmark was also invaded by the Triarchy's soldiers during the battle.
Naturally, the rest of the court has taken after Viserys. Even Laenor, Rhaenyra's husband, hints that he knows the princes are not biologically his children in Episode 6.
When finally did give birth to the baby, it is said that the child had a hole where her heart should have been, a tail, and scales for skin—a monster, as her mother had cursed her to be. Upon her death, Rhaenyra swore yet another vow. “She was my only daughter, and they killed her.
Aegon III, aka Aegon the Younger: Rhaenyra and Daemon's first child together. Aegon Targaryen, aka Jon Snow: Yes, he comes much later, when a song of ice and fire plays out. But he could be the prince that was promised, though that's still up for debate.
Rhaenyra Targaryen has six children, but unfortunately has already lost two of them, including one during birth.
Aegon and Rhaenyra fought for the throne in the civil war the singers called the Dance of the Dragons. Aegon later died over Dragonstone in the final year of the war, cementing his half-sister's rule and ending the Dance.
Rhaenyra's baby died during childbirth.
We only briefly see Visenya in the TV series, but Fire and Blood, the book House of the Dragon is based on, gives a detailed description of the malformed baby. According to the book Visenya, like Maegor the cruel's children, was born with scaled dragon-like skin and a small tail.
The moment happens in season 3, episode 4, “And Now His Watch Is Ended,” when Joffrey Lannister is chilling with Margaery Tyrell and giddily explains, “Rhaenyra Targaryen was murdered by her brother, or rather, his dragon. It ate her while her son watched. What's left of her is buried in the crypts right down there.”
Lyonel & Harwin Perish At Harrenhal
Harwin fights to get into his father's room as the fire rages around him, but Lyonel is locked in. Both Lyonel and Harwin are burned alive as the cursed Harrenhal burns again. Rhaenyra, Laenor, and the boys make their way to Dragonstone just as the tragedy at Harrenhal occurs.
Late in 105 AC, Rhaenyra's mother, Aemma, died birthing Rhaenyra's second brother, Prince Baelon, who died a day later.
During the civil war called the Dance of the Dragons (129 AC - 131 AC), Laenor's three sons by Rhaenyra all died. However, during the Sowing of the Seeds, Marilda of Hull brought forth her two sons, Addam and Alyn, claiming them to have been Laenor's bastards.
Aegon III Targaryen (131 AC to 157 AC)
He succeeded his uncle, Aegon II Targaryen, at the conclusion of the Dance of the Dragons, which saw the victorious supporters of his late mother Rhaenyra Targaryen install him on the throne.
After days of complicated and agonizing labor, Visenya was stillborn, with George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood book suggesting the baby was malformed with dragon-like birth defects. Rhaenyra will survive Visenya's birth in House of the Dragon, but her daughter's death will have significant impacts on the black Queen.
Legacy. Since Daemon's body was never recovered from the Gods Eye, singers say that he lived to spend the rest of his days in secret with Nettles. Daemon never achieved his ambition to sit on the Iron Throne, though his sons Aegon III and Viserys II eventually did.
