Drinking water first thing in the morning immediately helps rehydrate the body. Your six to eight hours of sleep is a long period to go without any water consumption. Drinking two or three glasses of water right when you wake up is a good way to rehydrate your body quickly.
When you first wake up in the morning your brain switches from delta waves, which occur in a deep sleep state, to theta waves, which occur during a sort of daydreamy state. The brain then moves to produce alpha waves when you are awake but are relaxed and not processing much information.
There are many reasons why you might be waking up early all of a sudden. They include external factors, such as environmental disturbances like temperature, light, and noise. They also include internal factors, like your circadian rhythm, sleep disorders like sleep apnea, and/or medical issues, like heartburn.
If you start waking up at 5AM, you'll be able to create intention and connection to your purpose, do some learning, and then make some progress toward your goals. If you make even small progress toward big goals over time, you'll start to see massive results. Small hinges swing big doors.
"As soon as you wake up after a night of sleep, you should get out of bed. If you lie awake in bed, your brain links being awake to being in bed," according to Professor Matthew Walker from University of California Berkeley.
The first 20 minutes after we wake up is called the alpha stage. It's been called the gateway to the subconscious mind. That time window is when your subconscious mind is most impressionable and soaks up information like a sponge.
At first, we might be a bit groggy but we are conscious. When we fall asleep, we appear to lose consciousness along with our waking state.
Drinking water first thing in the morning flushes out the stomach and therefore balances the lymphatic system. A stable lymphatic system will help build a strong immune system, which will prevent us from getting sick as often.
The benefits of drinking water on an empty stomach include positive effects for flushing toxins from the body, increasing energy and immunity, reducing weight and increasing metabolism, and preventing headaches and kidney stones. It aids in the cleansing of bowels and improves hair and skin health.
In the deepest level of sleep, stage IV sleep, the predominant EEG activity consists of low frequency (1–4 Hz), high-amplitude fluctuations called delta waves, the characteristic slow waves for which this phase of sleep is named. The entire sequence from drowsiness to deep stage IV sleep usually takes about an hour.
The “first night effect” (FNE) is a well-known phenomenon in polysomnographic (PSG) recordings characterized by decreased total sleep time, lower sleep efficiencies, reduction in REM sleep, and longer REM latencies on the first night of testing (Agnew, Webb, & Williams,1966).
Waking up at 3 am is not considered good as it is also known as the Devil's hour. It is believed that at this time strange things happen which includes free passage of two dimensions. This is believed to be the time when the line between the living and the dead thins down.
Your Brain When You Wake
When you initially wake from sleep, your brain first drifts through theta waves and then through alpha waves.
If you aren't feeling rested when you wake up, despite getting to sleep at least 8 hours prior, then it might not be the quantity of your sleep that's the problem. It could be your sleep quality that needs some attention. The amount of sleep you get is important, but equally important is the quality of that sleep.
That said, science has indicated that learning is most effective between 10 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 10 pm, when the brain is in an acquisition mode. On the other hand, the least effective learning time is between 4 am and 7 am.
The rule that is explained in her book [available here on Amazon] is the idea that you have the instinct to act on a goal (or an unpleasant task) if you physically move within 5 seconds. If 5 seconds pass, your brain will remove the need, and you are less likely to act as time goes on.
The rule is simply this: Set two alarms in the morning, three minutes apart. I call it the two-by-three rule. I'll explain why this works in a minute, but first, a few important things you should know. The second alarm should be set for whatever time you actually need to get up.
Sleep feels good because when we rest, our bodies produce melatonin, which controls our sleep patterns. Our melatonin levels increase at bedtime, making us feel tired. Melatonin, secreted by the pineal gland, makes us feel cozy and relaxed, allowing our bodies to get the time off they need at the end of each day.
While making a habit of spending the day in bed or on the couch is not good for anyone, using it as a well-placed conscious tool for your emotional and mental well-being is absolutely ok. As a matter of fact, it's an investment in your health.
Your bed is too comfy
This extra cosy feeling can be caused by melatonin, the sleep hormone, which is still being pumped around your body when you've just woken up.
The length of a dream can vary; they may last for a few seconds, or approximately 20–30 minutes. People are more likely to remember the dream if they are awakened during the REM phase.
