Based on general industry attitudes, a horsepower above 300 is “fast”—but here's a further breakdown of what that generally looks like: 75 hp: Small entry-level city car. 110-200 hp: Mid-sized family car. 300+ hp: Performance-oriented vehicles.
Generally, you'll be able to feel the speed of the car with anything more than above 200 horsepower. Volkswagen's Golf GTI, for example, has upwards of 245 horsepower. Cars with power ratings above 300 horsepower will usually be serious performance vehicles, and modern supercars will have more than 500 horsepower.

That being said, for a large vehicle, 400 horsepower is a good number to look for and will generally give you a good idea of what it is capable of. For small cars and midsize cars, look for at least 200 horsepower.
The Aventador powertrain features a mid-mounted naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12 that develops 769 horsepower.
