The upcoming update appears to focus on iPhones running iOS 11.2. 6 or earlier and whose users are unable to use key software. The iPhone 5 and older devices will be affected. However, even people using an iPhone 7 also run the risk of being affected if their system software hasn't been updated.
Apple is said to drop software support for three iPhones in 2023. The iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X may not get iOS 17 update. Three old iPads will also reportedly lose software support from Apple.
2. Will the iPhone 7 still work in 2023? Even though the iPhone 7 is no longer supported by Apple's iOS updates, that doesn't mean you still can't use it in 2023. The iPhone 7 will still work on different carrier networks in the US and you'll still have access to apps on the Apple Store.
Apart from iPhone 12, iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are the other two models which are on the discontinuation radar this year as Apple usually discontinues its Pro models after a year of sales.
US-based tech giant Apple Inc may exclude the iPhone SE 4 from its new product planning for 2024/2025.
However, keep in mind that Apple only supports software updates up to 6 years after the original release of the device, so the iPhone 8 will likely stop receiving updates by 2024. Now that we have a better sense of how 'outdated' this phone actually is, let's try to find out if the iPhone 8 is still worth it.
The iPhone 8 runs iOS 16 and still has a lot of the features of newer iPhones. The iPhone 8 is expected to get upgraded to iOS 17 in late 2023.
Apple unveiled the iPhone 11 in September 2019, and it was available as a low-cost option for several years after that, but the iPhone 11 has since been discontinued and it is no longer available from Apple.
Many older iPhones can run Apple's latest operating system, iOS 15.5. According to Apple's policy of supporting iPhones for six years, we might estimate that the iPhone 11 will be supported until 2025. As a result, you may rest assured that your operating system will be up to date at least for a few years.
Apple's iOS 15 can only be installed on the iPhone 6S or later. So it should come as no surprise that millions of these older models are being phased out. In fact, Apple cut off support for the iPhone 6 two years ago with the release of iOS 13.
As of 2023 Apple supports the last two versions of its operating systems for bug and security updates: iOS 16 and iOS 15. All phones that could run iOS 14 and iOS 13 are able to run iOS 15, so that means all phones from iPhone 6s forwards are supported.
How long will the iPhone 7 be supported? The iPhone 7 will be officially supported till September 12, 2022, which is when iOS 16 gets released.
iPhone battery durability
For most users, this represents approximately two years of use, which is why most people believe that the lifespan of a phone is two years. However when it comes to iPhones, you can expect between three to five years (maybe more) with proper care.
Apple iPhone 13
If you're buying an iPhone in early 2023, the smartest choice might just be 2021's iPhone 13. This is especially true if you're paying some or all of the cost out of pocket and not getting an “iPhone on us” carrier deal.
You may not find a new iPhone 11 for sale because Apple discontinued it after announcing the launch of the iPhone 14 on September 7, 2022.
Despite being well over three years old, so much about the iPhone 11 holds up remarkably well in 2023. The biggest reason for this is its processor. Powering the iPhone 11 is Apple's A13 Bionic chip.
The iPhone 11 as well as the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 Pro with its Max variant were discontinued and removed from Apple's website after the announcement of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro on September 7, 2022.
If you're using an iPhone 11, we recommend upgrading to an iPhone 14 (or even an iPhone 13). In the last three or so years, Apple has made enough changes to features including battery life, performance, screen quality, cameras and durability to merit buying a new iPhone.
In our testing, the iPhone 12 lasted about one to two hours less than the iPhone 11, giving the older model an advantage for those who need longer battery life. Not only is the battery bigger, but it also seems that overall efficiency seems to be better, thanks to the lower-resolution LCD display.
Why has Apple stopped selling the iPhone 11 Pro models? I think it's about two connected things: supply chain and muddling its phone range. The first one we can brush past quickly. The more different phones Apple sells, the more complex manufacturing and shipping them becomes.
It is two years behind the current flagship iPhone 14 models and has a slower chip than the prior-generation iPhone 13. If you want the latest iPhone, don't go with the iPhone 12, but if you just need something affordable with Face ID, it's a good pick.
On June 6, 2022, Apple announced on its website that iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will not receive support for iOS 16.
One thing people love about Apple is that it has dedicated to supporting older iPhones for the long haul. And despite its age, the iPhone X can still handle Apple's latest software, iOS 16.
