The aspect ratio of A4, 1:1.414 is near the average of 1.5 for 2:3 and 1.333 for 3:4.
Size and aspect ratio guide for A series paper sizes
A2 – 420 mm X 594 mm – 42m x 59.4cm – 15.52 inch x 23.39 inch -1:1.41. A3 – 297 mm X 420 mm – 29.7cm x 42cm- 11.69nch x 15.52 inch – 1:1.41. A4 – 210 mm X 297 mm – 21cm x 29.7cm – 8.26 inch x 11.69 inh -1:1.41.
Standard (4:3 ratio; 48 in. x 36 in.)
The aspect ratio (width:height) of A3 paper is 1:1.4142 (1:√2).
The 4:3 aspect ratio describes a width of four units and a height of three units. These can be inches, lines, or pixels, depending on the object with that aspect ratio. When you divide the values, that is the width by the height, you get 1.33 (4 divided by 3 is 1.33).
International Paper Sizes and Dimensions
There are three ranges of paper sizes, prefixed A, B and C. The most widely used for general printing and letterhead stationery is the A series. The most common of these sheet sizes is the international letterhead size A4, which measures 8-1/4 x 11-3/4 in, or 210 x 297 mm.
Note: International paper size 'A3', portrait orientation, is 297 mm wide x 420 mm long (11.69″ x 16.54″); aspect ratio 1:1.414.
Its dimensions are 210 x 297 mm, or 8.27 x 11.69 inches. Its height-to-width aspect ratio is approximately the square root of 2 (1.414) to one. A4 size paper is similar to, but should not be mistaken for, Letter size paper (8.5 x 11 inches), a standard paper size used in the United States.
The simplified or reduced ratio "3 to 4" tells us only that, for every three men, there are four women. The simplified ratio also tells us that, in any representative set of seven people (3 + 4 = 7) from this group, three will be men. In other words, the men comprise 73 of the people in the group.
4:3 DEFINITION
The 4:3 aspect ratio is used in film and TV to denote the width and height of images that are 4 units wide by 3 units tall. This term is usually pronounced Four-Three, Four-to-Three, or Four-by-Three, and also known as 1.33:1.
This means that in most cases, the top, bottom, left or right (or all edges) of your photo has to be cut off in order to make it fit on a 4×6 print. This idea of a photo's shape is technically known as its aspect ratio or ratio. The aspect ratio of a 4×6 photo is 3:2.
The ISO 216 paper size system is an international standard that is used in many places in the world in copy and print devices that defines paper sizes. Based on the metric system, the ISO paper size system uses a height-to-width ratio with an aspect ratio of 1 to 1.414 (The square root of 2).
A4 to A3 = 141% A5 to A4 = 141% From A3 to A1 = 200% A4 to A2 = 200%
The height/width ratio remains constant (1:1.41 or the square root of 2) for all sizes.
Every 'A' size is double the previous size: A3 is twice the size of A4, and so forth. Remember that A8 is very small (about 2in x 3in) and A0 is big (nearly 3ft x 4ft).
A3 paper size measurements are 297 mm x 420 mm, 29.7 cm x 42 cm or 11.7 in x 16.5 in. Its printing surface is large enough for everyday use at 0.125 m² or 1250 cm².
16:9 Ratio Defined
Examples of 16:9 ratios are 16 inches wide by 9 inches high, 32 widgets wide by 18 widgets high, and 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high.
As a baseline, we recommend using 4:3 for photos and 16:9 for videos. This is a good common standard, and you can't go wrong with either of them. As you gain experience and want to try more artistic photos, we recommend you experiment with different styles of aspect ratios.
The 4:3 aspect ratio is commonly known as the fullscreen aspect ratio. The 4x3 (1.33:1) format became the first standard ratio for televisions and computer monitors as it was easy to use due to the camera formats.
To create an exact aspect ratio, divide the height by the width. For example: 2:3 aspect ratio: 3 ÷ 2 = 1.5, so you'd drag the slider to 150.
