These levels are used to describe how dark or light your hair color is. Level 10 is lightest blond, level 9 is light blond, level 8 is medium blond, level 7 is dark blond, level 6 is light brown, level 5 is medium brown, level 4 is dark brown, level 3 is darkest brown, level 2 is black brown and level 1 is black.
Level 3 is a smidge lighter than level 2 with a dark brown that's more similar to dark chocolate. It's brown even from a distance but dark enough that significant lightening will have to be done to get it to show bold colors. Level 4 is brown. This is the common and chocolatey “true brown”.
The level system is made up of 10 numbers which help determine the depth level of your natural hair. 1 is black, 5 is light brown, 6 is dark blonde, 7 is blonde and 10 is the lightest blonde.
There are nine distinct colors in the series including 1N (Very black), 2N (Black), 3N (Dark Natural Brown), 4N (Medium Natural Brown), 5N (Light Natural Brown), 6N (Dark Natural Blond), 7N (Medium Natural Blonde), 8N (Light Natural Blond), and 10N (Lightest Natural Blond).
2=Brownish Black, one shade lighter than the 1b. Black with some brownish overtones to it when looking at it in the light. 4=Darkest Brown, a very dark brunette, not black, but very dark. 6=Dark Brown, lighter than the color 4.
To determine your level, take a section of hair from the crown of your head and hold it out where you can see it, away from the rest of your hair. Then, compare it to our level chart, with level 1 being the darkest (black) and level 10 being the lightest (light blonde).
White's rule of thumb is that light skinned, light eyed girls will look more natural with lighter shades, while dark skin and dark eyes work better with darker shades. Your colorist should be able to help you determine your skin tone.
4N Burdock is a dark brown. The N (Natural) Series provides the most complete grey coverage in a range of colors including blacks, browns and blondes and are considered warm colors.
The higher the number, the lighter the base colour will be e.g. 1.0 is deep black and 9.0 is a light blonde. The second number of the shade is always related to the reflect. The higher the number is, the warmer the reflect will be e.g. 1.0 is a deep black with no reflect and 4.5 is a light brown with a warm reflect.
4N and 4NN are the same color only the NN version has a slightly higher concentration of dye. Another way to describe NN is an opaque version of N.

4NN Intense Medium Neutral Brown Permanent Liquid Hair Color.
Ash. A darker root gives this a bit more edge too. For those who refuse to take a stand, this non-polarizing ash shade is the perfect midway between blonde and brown hair color ideas. This mid-tone hue is a soft blend between the two hair colors, offering a beautiful ashy blend of brown and blonde hair color.
Choose a hair color on the opposite side of the wheel from your present hue to neutralize said shade. For example, if your hair is dyed green, use a reddish-brown color, like auburn or chestnut, to help revert your tresses back to a natural brown tone.
For example, if your hair is a medium brown color, you may be a level 5, because it's right in the middle between black and blonde. If your hair is a dark shade of blonde, you may be a level 7. Mind that we speak about the levels of color (depth/lightness), not hair color itself!

A Sandy brown natural color is a beautiful nude tone that compliments lighter skin tones. This shade of golden brown is achievable on natural level 7 and up, so you don't grab too much red. A fine line exists between having a warm golden tone and looking too brassy.
As a general rule, your choice of hair color should not be more than two tones away from your natural color. - Take into account that with age, features tend to intensify and skin tends to become lighter. Forget hair colors that are too dark and look for bright colors.
So if we're going for an ash blonde colour, for example, we'd probably start with a 6 (dark blonde) or 7 (blonde). The second number, to the right of the full stop, is your tone. You can learn more about undertones below. Tones go from 8 (mocha) through 5 (warm mahogany) to 1 (cool ash).

Gray hair tends to be resistant and typically takes longer to grab hold of the hair. Since there is no pigment, there is no need to lift. You just need to open the cuticle enough to deposit the color.
