Rain World is a platforming survival game set in a dismal world in the process of being drowned by an endless storm. Players will take control of a tiny Slugcat and try to survive the treacherous terrain and the lethal predators on their path to a better life.
At its core, Rain World isn't a platformer, it's a pure survival game. Your main goal won't be going through areas or clearing challenges. Your main task is instead to simply survive each day, finding enough food and a shelter to survive the harsh rains. Failure to do this results in death and restarting the cycle.

The Monk is described as being more in-tune with nature than the average slugcat. Predators are less common and slightly less aggressive, and less food is required for the player to hibernate.
There's no way to lose "hours of progress" in this game, because it always saves automatically when you hibernate -which you need to do every 10-15 minutes before the rain comes-. And if you lose progress because you died and lost plenty of Karma, you can easily gain it back by hibernating and stopping dying so often.

Each act of your freewill i.e. the kriyamana/agama karma (Vartamana) which is the “current living”, adds to your eventual fate. Karmic intensities applies to every realm of our existence.
Whether we describe it through physics, or refer to it as the Golden Rule from the Bible, karma is a natural law of the universe. We should take responsibility and be mindful with our actions — because they always have consequences.
