All you need to do is mix 2 – 2 and a half cups of ammonia, 100 – 200 mL of water and a 2-3 spoonful of detergent in a bowl. Then, put it to places where rats are usually seen. The smell of ammonia is very pungent that it instantly kills rats.
Flour and sugar – mix equal parts of sugar, flour, and baking soda. Leave in a shallow dish. Cocoa powder – chocolate is difficult for anyone to resist, including mice. Combine equal amounts of cocoa powder and baking soda, and then add a little sugar to sweeten the deal.
FASTRAC BLOX with the active ingredient, Bromethalin, is Bell's fastest-acting rodenticide formulation.
Rat and Mice Poison - One part flour or sugar & one part baking soda (do not have to use both sugar and flour, just one or the other mixed with baking soda). Mix together and put out for rodents. Safe if the kids or pets get into it but makes rodents insides bubble up & explode.
Ammonia. This is known as a cleaning agent, but it also acts as a poison to mice and rats. All you need to do is mix 2 – 2 and a half cups of ammonia, 100 – 200 mL of water and a 2-3 spoonful of detergent in a bowl. Then, put it to places where rats are usually seen.
Many human medicines are poisonous to animals. The most common ones that we see are probably human painkillers such as ibuprofen and paracetamol.
Grapes/raisins, chocolate, avocado, garlic, onion, rhubarb, coffee, tea, alcohol, and walnuts must not be fed as they are toxic to mice. Lettuce should be avoided as it can cause diarrhoea in mice [4].
While most home remedies only incapacitate or deter mice from nesting in your home, some of them can kill them instantly. Snap traps are the most effective way to do that. Another way is to mix boric acid with peanut butter into small circular balls and leave them around the home.
It turns out that baking soda catalyzes some form of reaction inside the rat's stomach. Baking soda combines with the stomach acids to produce carbon dioxide gas which rats are unable to tolerate. In turn, it builds up within their system and eventually causes internal blockage and rupture.
Baking soda is one of the most effective ways to kill mice and rats. It works by producing gas in their bellies. They cannot pass through burping or farting. It finishes off these pests painfully!
The smell of white vinegar is a natural repellent for mice. It will make them leave your home or office. Mice have a strong sense of smell and they will avoid areas where there is white vinegar sprayed or soaked cotton balls in it. It is important to note that white vinegar will not work on all mice.
Peppermint Oil
These rodents cannot stand this oil's robust and minty smell, so a few drops around your home can go a long way in keeping them away. You can also use a diffuser to spread the peppermint oil around your home or apply it directly to areas where you've seen mice or rats.
Because mice rely mostly on their sense of smell, the direct scent of peppermint tea or peppermint oil is an immediate turnoff. Mice generally follow the scent of other mouse pheromones, which is why when the scent of peppermint is mixed in they get confused.
Snap traps
A more humane and faster method than live trapping and killing is the use of a well-designed snap trap. These come in different sizes that can be used for either rats or mice.
Cedarwood oil
It acts toxic to rodents and has a fragrant, woodsy scent that is very unpleasant to them.
rodenticide, any substance that is used to kill rats, mice, and other rodent pests. Warfarin, 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate), ANTU (legal label for alpha-naphthylthiourea), and red squill are commonly used rodenticides. These substances kill by preventing normal blood clotting and causing internal hemorrhaging.
Results showed oral administration of the paracetamol for three months in laboratory rats showed that this drug has a severe damaging effect on most of the vital organs in the body like kidney, liver and heart.
Ibuprofen was shown to inhibit lipopolysaccharide-induced cognitive dysfunction and neuroinflammation in rats [19]. Chronic ibuprofen treatment improved cognition after abdominal surgery in mice [20]. Moreover, ibuprofen treatment was associated with distinct microbial profiles [21].
Non-toxic lethal methods of removal include dry ice placed in rodent burrows, CO2 controlled rat and mouse traps that kill instantly and humanely, and electric traps. As a last resort, use snap traps inside a bait box and only in locations inaccessible to other animals (e.g. garage or shed).
Top of the list is blue cheese, which could kill your pet. Others are licorice, poppy seeds and bitter almonds. Green potatoes are toxic to most animals, including you, and rats are just as vulnerable. The same goes for rhubarb leaves, and for rats, the stems are also hazardous.
