Lightweights: 10-14oz
Denims in this weight range will be the best choice for those who want to walk an easy and familiar path into the world of well-made selvedge. If you're trying to recreate the feeling of an old, beat-up pair of American denim from the 50s or 60s, this will be the ideal weight range.
Weightless Denim, which Duer uses in straight leg and chino style pants, is, first and foremost, lightweight — six ounces per square yard, whereas typical denim jeans might weigh 12 to 16 ounces per yard and heavyweight denim might reach 20.
13oz = 441 gms
Weight categories are not precise and relative to what you're used to using but to many 13oz is considered as the start of the heavyweight category. A great weight for durable jeans and warm jackets.
Mid-weight – or from 12 Oz. – 16 Oz. Heavyweight – anything above 16 Oz.
Less than 12 oz. = lightweight. 12-16 oz. = midweight.
10-13oz: Standard Weight The most common weight used to make jeans. Perfect for all seasons with a proper balance of durability and comfort. 14-16oz: Midweight Heavier than your average denim, and quite rigid to start. These jeans usually require a few weeks to break in.
Lighter weight chambray can have either a dressy or casual appeal. Some will be woven with a tighter weave and have a nice shine and dress up nicely, while others will have a very noticeable fabric slub and a looser, gauzier weave that is better suited for casual shirting.
Denim weighing between 10.5 oz. and 12.5 oz. per square yard of fabric. Most Levi's® styles are crafted from midweight denim.
As you'd expect, the lighter denim (12. oz or under) works best in the summer months, whereas heavier denim (12. oz and above) works better in the winter. So you want the light option, and a great option, much like our selections below.
These denim fabrics are all under 8oz and are perfect for designing shirts, loose trousers, leggings, and (if they have stretch) dresses. If you're looking for a fluid or draping dress or garment, look no further than our 4oz option.

Go For A Dark Wash
If you wish to hide your big thighs then you must pick a dark wash jean and ditch the lighter ones in your closet. Dark wash jeans doesn't reflect much light and help hide your thighs. It kinda camouflages your thigh area and makes you look slimmer.

These fabrics feel more sturdy and will hold their shape more than the lighter weight ones. This makes them more suited to trousers, skirts, overalls and dungaree style dresses.
Japanese denim also tends to differ from denim produced elsewhere in terms of weight. Japan produces some very heavy denim, with several brands topping out at 25 ounces per yard and Naked & Famous even managing to make 40-ounce denim.
They changed the fabric years ago, because the lighter weight stuff is cheaper, plain and simple. It was not the only saving measure enacted to help them remain in business. They are not alone in the struggle, Lee and Wrangler suffered as well.
It doesn't pander to fashion trends and has an unabashedly straight leg silhouette. It's neither skinny nor baggy. The 12.5-ounce denim is appropriate for a range of seasons and the jean comes in a variety of washes to suit your personal taste.
That is the essence of the 501 denim legacy: by honouring the past while staying mindful of the future, each pair is just as fresh today as it was 150 years ago. Perhaps the biggest secret behind the 501 jeans' enduring appeal is that they don't chase trends, they set them.
This goes double if you're wearing heavyweight denim. The heavy stuff produces some of the best looking fades, but the much-coveted whiskers and honeycombs don't come quickly. Expect to wait at least a year for impressive fades—longer if you live a life of leisure.

So how do you buy jeans that fit? Any good denim expert worth their weight in gold will tell you to “always take the smaller size when you can”. The reason is that denim stretches up to half a size, even if it says otherwise on the label.
