Character information
Alma Madrigal (often referred to as Abuela) is the deuteragonist of Disney's 2021 animated feature film Encanto.
As Alma carried the three babies across the river in her arms, Pedro was unable to pass, being murdered by the conquerors who drove them from their home. In the midst of Pedro's death, Abuela's candle came to life as it gifted the babies, and future Madrigals, their magical powers.
Dolores is the closest character to a villain in Disney's Encanto as she uses her magical gift to negatively affect people like Isabela. While Encanto doesn't have a traditional Disney villain, Dolores Madrigal seems the closest to fulfill that role, especially with how she tries to ruin things for her cousin, Isabela.
Young and still discovering himself, Camilo enjoys using his shapeshifting ability to try different personas and playing pranks or playfully teasing his relatives. Of all the family members, his cousin Isabela is notably the person he enjoys teasing the most.
Isabela is a 21-year-old young Colombian woman with dark skin, hazel eyes, a tear-shaped beauty mark on her left cheek, and long, shiny, black hair with a pink flower on the left side, and diamond earrings.

The embroidery on her dress is little butterflies because she doesn't have her gift yet. Everyone's costume, once they get their gift, has something to do with their gift - but this means she's in this moment before it happened. She's got butterflies because she doesn't know what her gift is going to be yet.”
The character appears to symbolize the stigma around mental health issues: While he is never labeled with a specific diagnosis in the film, some viewers have suggested that he has OCD or another type of neurodivergent brain function.
To help focus and cope with the taxing nature of his power, Bruno performs a ritual that requires a large, open space to properly see his visions, and initiates it by drawing a circle in sand and burning leaves. Bruno does not have full control of his ability and some visions can come involuntarily.
