In Australia in 1977, the
The 1977 Coat of Arms 50c is the rare one. They were not meant to be minted but 10 of them have appeared.
A list of valuable 50c Australian coins is fairly short - most are only worth their face value unless they are in premium grade. One of the first 50 cent piece designs that many people notice in their change are the fifty cent coins struck for the Centenary of Federation - there is one for each state and territory.
A really interesting error on a 1977 50 cent. It looks like it was struck through an attached cold shut. The smooth surface of the struck through area indicates a cold shut while the fractured edge shows that the cold shut was probably attached.
Some of the 2010 50 cent coins were minted with the obverse and reverse die rotated 30 degrees or one face of the dodecagonal shaped planchet. Presumably this was in error.
While it is unknown how many of the 1977 mules exist, with estimates of under 10 and catalogs noting seven known examples, it is indeed a rare and desirable coin.
The Two Versions of the 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown Coin
One of the ways you can tell if you have either a cupro-nickel version or the silver proof version, is by looking at the thickness of the coin. The cupro-nickel coin is 3.2mm, while the silver proof coin has less thickness on the coin as it is 2.89mm.
And the silver crisis of 1945 and 1946 and the 1945 Penny, Australia's rarest penny. And this 1946 cupro nickel florin, an experimental strike in an alternative metal and the the only example held by a private collector. The Melbourne Mint produced four florins in cupro nickel.
Uncirculated examples of the clad version are worth around $2. The 1976 Bicentennial Half Dollar is a commemorative coin minted to celebrate the United States 200th anniversary of independence.
This particular 1966 round 50 cent shows a linear planchet flaw on the obverse of the coin extending fully from one rim to another across the full diameter from the second E in ELIZABETH to the I in Australia.
1976 50 cent with a mostly split planchet but the two halves have not detached. Planchet split around three quarters of the coin's rim forming the characteristic 'clamshell' shape that gives this type of error it's name. Not seen often on 50 cent coins.
It's from 1966,' she wrote. Coin enthusiasts were quick to offer their varying assessments on its worth, with most guessing between $8 and $15 dollars. 'Dealers will give you $8 or so for them or charge you $11 or thereabouts unless in extremely fine or mint condition,' one person wrote.
The 1925 penny is Australia's 2nd rarest penny and is one of the most sought after coins in the entire penny set. Royal Mint records seem to indicate that it was struck quite late in 1925, mainly to make sure there was no chance that Australian shop tills ran short of pennies over the 1925 Christmas break.

The maximum coin mintage is 5,000,070 coins – as a reference to 70 years on the throne. The initial release of 1.3 million coins was followed by 1 million more, hence the current total mintage of 2.3 million.
The distinctive 1977 Silver Jubilee coin design
