A range of dissociative disorders

The key to managing dissociation related to anxiety is to practice grounding techniques to bring yourself back into the present moment. You can do this by always having a "grounding plan" that you put in place when you find yourself spacing out or otherwise feeling as though you are dissociating.

They start to pull away. They feel disconnected. They feel confused.
Dissociation can also be an emergency survival tactic during intense pain or trauma. It cuts you off from your experience, making you numb when pain or panic would otherwise overwhelm you. This means that in the short-term, dissociation can be necessary for survival.
Awareness of yourself and what's going on around you can be compromised during dissociation, which might feel like an unwelcome and frightening intrusion into your mind.
Treatment for Dissociation
Left untreated, this behavior can lead to depression, anxiety, relationship and work problems, substance abuse problems, and difficulty recovering from the original trauma. Fortunately, when recognized, recovery from dissociative disorders, PTSD, and childhood trauma is possible.

Most professionals believe that dissociation exists on a spectrum. At one end of the spectrum is an experience like daydreaming. At the other end is chronic and complex dissociation which may make it difficult for an individual to function in the "real" world.
If someone has dissociated, they are not available for this type of interaction. You are talking to a person who cannot reason with you. The person might be able to hear you, but regardless, they may be unable to respond.
People often "describe feeling as if they and the world are unreal or as if they are outside of their body," says Halpern. "They may say that they feel like they are watching themselves in a movie." Similarly, you might also feel "emotionally numb or detached as well as little or no pain," adds McInnis.
