The Baby Bonus Scheme initially granted $2,500 in tax cuts per year for parents of newborns, an amount which was amended to lump-sum payments of $3,000 from 1 July 2004 and progressively rising to its current amount of $5,000 (now paid in 13 instalments).
For a first child (excluding stillbirth), you will be eligible for the $5,000 payment. For any subsequent children, you will receive the $3,000 baby bonus.
The Baby Bonus Scheme (formerly known as Child Development Co-Savings Scheme) was first introduced in Singapore on 1 April 2001. The scheme is continuously enhanced since its inception till 2021.

The maximum rate for each child per fortnight is: $197.96 for a child 0 to 12 years. $257.46 for a child 13 to 15 years. $257.46 for a child 16 to 19 years who meets the study requirements.
Newborn Upfront Payment and Newborn Supplement
The Newborn Upfront Payment is a lump sum payment of $575 (amount correct April 2022). This amount is not taxable. To be able to receive the Upfront Payment you must be eligible for Family Tax Benefit Part A and must not be receiving Parental Leave Pay for the same child.
Approved care organisations
If a child comes into your care, for example, through foster care, you may be eligible for Newborn Upfront Payment and Newborn Supplement. If you're adopting a child, you may be eligible for Newborn Upfront Payment and Newborn Supplement.
A child born in Australia to foreign parents is entitled to free public health care services and benefits, including subsidized medicine. A child born in Australia to foreign parents is eligible for social security payments, such as the Age Pension or Disability Support Pension.

Maternity Payment was formally renamed the Baby Bonus in 2007. From 1 January 2009, the $75,000 income limit was applied to the payment and it switched from being paid as a lump sum to being paid in mandatory fortnightly instalments.

Claim online
If you're the birth mother or initial primary carer you can claim Parental Leave Pay up to 3 months before your child's birth or adoption. Other parents must wait until 1 July 2023 to claim under these changes. You'll need to have Centrelink linked to your myGov account to claim this payment.
A change to expand the eligibility of Parenting Payment Single to customers whose child is under 14 years was announced in the Budget, starting from 20 September 2023. It's subject to legislation.
Guarantee overview
The FHG aims to support eligible single parents with at least one dependent child to buy a home, whether that single parent is a first home buyer or a previous home owner. From 1 July 2022 – 30 June 2023, 5,000 FHG places are available to eligible single parents with at least one dependent.
