SIL participants represent 5.7% of all participants, and 34% of payments made in the 2020-21 financial year to date. The average annualised payments year to date for SIL participants is $318,000, and $37,400 for participants not in SIL.
Compensation is a lump sum or periodic payment for a personal injury that is at least in part for the cost of supports the NDIS may fund. We account for compensation to avoid duplicating funding of the types of supports provided for in your compensation payment.
The NDIS funds a range of supports and services which may include education, employment, social participation, independence, living arrangements and health and wellbeing. In order to be considered reasonable and necessary, a support or service: must be related to a participant's disability.
Because NDIS support payments are granted for very specific reasons. They are not classified as income; they will not reduce income support payments from Centrelink. Support payments from the NDIS are also exempt from tax and are not counted as income when calculating Child Support Benefit.
It is based on how much funding you have available and how long you have left in your plan. The calculator can provide an estimate of the funding available based on a selected timeframe (such as $200 per month) or the number of hours of support (such as 10 hours per week).

Our research revealed that only a small proportion of a sample successfully applied to the NDIS, with our interviewees characterised as 'hard-to-reach' because of their socio-economic disadvantage, social isolation, and lack of adequate support.
The NDIS cannot fund a support that is: the responsibility of another government system or community service. not related to a person's disability. relates to day-to-day living costs that are not related to a participant's support needs, or.
Disability requirements
The NDIS is only available to people who have a disability caused by a permanent impairment . The impairment may be intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory, physical, or psychosocial.
For example, assistance with everyday needs, household cleaning and/or yard maintenance. Everyday items you may need. For example, continence products or low-cost assistive technology and equipment to improve your independence and/or mobility.
We can give you a 36 month plan if: you know how to use your NDIS plan. your disability support needs are stable. you have strong informal supports and living arrangements.
It's important to remember that if you do receive winnings, either as a lump sum or periodic payments, you need to let Services Australia know. You can tell us about your changes online, using your Centrelink account through myGov or on your Express Plus Centrelink app.
If you decide to keep using the NDIS your supports will stay the same. They wont change after you turn 65. If you are 65 or older how can you make sure your support stays the same when the NDIS starts? The Australian and NSW Governments will work out how to make sure your support stays the same.
NDIS participants are responsible for day-to-day living costs including rent, groceries, utilities, telephone or internet costs. This is the same for general household items such as a bed, fridge or cooking utensils.
You can only buy items that help you continue to access your existing supports and services. You cannot use your NDIS funding to purchase a smart device for entertainment, education or gaming.
An NDIS Plan will not fund a vacuum cleaner, but if a participant can't perform tasks like vacuuming and cleaning because of their disability, the NDIS will provide funds for a support worker to do these tasks instead.
Why it's hard to get into the NDIS. To gain access to the NDIS, people need to gather and submit evidence to prove that their mental illness results in a disability. Sometimes a mental illness does not have a long-term effect on the person's ability to study, work or look after themselves.
71% of participants aged 25 and over reported that the NDIS has helped them have more choice and control over their lives rising to almost 80% after 4 years in the NDIS. 74% of participants aged 25 and over reported the NDIS had helped them with daily living activities rising to 85.5% after 4 years in the Scheme.
Once your current NDIS plan ends, your funds stop. And any unspent funding will NOT roll over into your new plan. After each plan review you will receive a new plan outlining supports and funds for the next period of time.
