QUIKRETE® Concrete Bonding Adhesive (No. 9902) permanently bonds new concrete, plaster, and stucco to existing concrete, plaster, and stucco. Eliminates the need for roughing the surface before the application.
A bonding agent (bonding adhesive) needs to be painted onto the existing concrete first to ensure that the fresh concrete will successfully adhere. This is also true of floor repairs, if concrete is used to fill gaps caused by damage. The new won't adhere to the old without the help of a bonding adhesive.
Acrylic Latex Bonding Agents
This agent is primarily used to bond fresh concrete with a surface of old concrete. These are a combination of polymers and copolymers which is milky white in color. Acrylic latex bonding agents are applied on the surface either by brush, or trowels or rollers.
You can put new concrete over old concrete. However, unresolved issues with your old concrete, such as cracks or frost heaves, will carry over to your new concrete if not taken care of. In addition, you must pour it at least 2 inches thick.
While pouring concrete on top of an existing surface could save money in the short term, you need to weigh up the risks with your installer to determine if it will pay off in the long run. Reinforcement is also recommended when pouring concrete on top of an existing concrete surface.
This concrete bonding primer penetrates and bonds to etched concrete, enhancing the adhesion of the top coat finish. Ideal for use under Valspar Latex Porch & Floor Paint. Maximum adhesion to concrete for a flawless top coat. Ensures resistance to peeling and flaking.
PVA Bonding Agent imparts excellent adhesion to cement and concrete; It allows a strong bond to be formed between cement and a variety of substrates and imparts excellent adhesion to concrete, enabling easy repair of concrete surface without the need for mechanical preparation of the surfaces.
Concrete, mortar or similar materials are not designed to stick or bond to old surfaces. You will not get any satisfactory results if you simply add new mortar to old. It just doesn't work. Using a modified thinset mortar would be the preferred method for this type of installation.
BondCrete is suitable for Tiling, adhesive for craft work, patching of most surfaces, sealing concrete, rendering surfaces and most cement applications. BondCrete is widely used in the building and renovating industry.
If the cement is left unused for a longer period of time, the setting of cement takes place due to atmospheric moisture and in the process cement loses strength. That cement when used in concrete or mortar, the concrete or the mortar does not gain the desired strength.
Kookaburra Paints PVA Adhesive & Cement Mix 20L (Bondcrete equivalent) Versatile bonding and sealing agent. Exclusive resin additive ensuring maximum bonding strength. No need to hack, chip or acid etch most surfaces before bonding.
Gyproc Bonding Coat is a lightweight undercoat plaster for use over smooth or medium suction backgrounds. It can be used over in-situ concrete when pre-treated with ThistleBond-it.
Bonding Liquid is an acrylic latex additive that can be used with all cementitious based products in order to improve adhesion, flexibility and waterproofing properties.
Bottom line: Cement is a powdered ingredient used to make concrete. Concrete is the material used to make sidewalks, driveways and buildings. Sakrete makes a number of different concrete formulations in varying strengths and set times to meet the needs of different job requirements.
How thin can you pour concrete over concrete? Your new layer needs to be at least 2 inches thick. If it's any thinner than that, it'll easily crack under pressure and won't adequately bond to your surface.
Plaster that dries too quickly can crack, spoiling the finish of the wall. Moreover, it may not stick to the wall as well, and sections can even fall off. Applying PVA as a primer helps prevent this from happening.
With Cement All, no bonding agent is needed. Once the jobsite is in order, wet the surface you'll be bonding to, then remove any standing water. Mix the product with clean, potable water using a mechanical mixer.
Remove dirt dust, laitance, deteriorated surfaces and other contaminants by sand or grit blasting. Remove dirt, grease and oil with suitable industrial grade cleaning and degreasing compounds. Remove paint, rust, and mill scale by sand- or grit blasting. Follow sand- or grit blasting with oil-free dry air blasting.
If the concrete substrate is not primed, “You'll see pinholes because the concrete is breathing.” You will have even more problems if you're topcoating over old concrete. The substrate might well be dry and crumbly, causing the surface to flake and take the new coat with it.
Primer — hydrophilic monomer used to wet and penetrate the tooth surface. Self-cured bonding agent — bonding agent with catalyst that allows self curing without light activation.
PVA Bond is a multi-purpose product that is used in many building and DIY-based applications. It is designed to bond materials together, with the added benefits of also acting as a primer, sealer as well as an admixture for both plaster and cement when needed.
