Sit: The “sit” command is one of the easiest tricks your dog can learn and serves as the basis for many other simple tricks like “shake” and “stay.” To teach this trick, keep your foot on your dog's leash, allowing them only a little room to move but not enough to jump up.
If you're just getting started, Novice level tricks that work well include fetch, finding a treat or scent object, barking on cue, high five, kiss, shake hands, spin in circles, and touch.
More specifically, a well-behaved pup should respond to seven directions in order to become a good canine citizen: Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Heel, Off, and No.
Smell is a dog's most prominent sense and the one that is the most different from ours. It has been estimated that a dog's sense of smell is 100,000 times more powerful than a human's.
Some suggest animals—including dogs—can be lulled into a hypnotic state simply by sitting them on your lap with their rump closest to you and head between your knees. Others recommend shifting your dog onto their back, holding them under the arms, and stroking their belly until their limbs go limp.
After 3-4 barks put a really yummy treat in your dog's face and when he stops barking to get the treat, you say “Quiet” (you do not have to shout, just use a normal tone of voice) – then say “YES” and give him the treat. 4. Roll Over Dog Trick
The trick that is growing in popularity is the roll.
What is direct interactive punishment, and how does it work? If you catch your dog or cat engaging in an incorrect behavior, try a loud noise such as clapping your hands or a loud “no”. Remember, reprimands need to occur while the behavior is happening, preferably just as it begins, and never after.
And, by the way, although it is a survival strategy for some, the very word pronk comes from an Afrikaans verb pronk-, which means show off or strut. It has the same linguistic derivation as our English verb prance. Bottom line: Among wild animals, pronking seems to be a way of avoiding predators.
It's basically just playing “peekaboo” with your pup. Some dogs instantly catch on and attempt to retrieve their toy while others stare in baffled amazement or give up and walk away. Your pup's reaction to this simple test may be an indication of their intelligence or their level of dependence on you.
Licking is a natural and instinctive behaviour to dogs. For them it's a way of grooming, bonding, and expressing themselves. Your dog may lick you to say they love you, to get your attention, to help soothe themselves if they're stressed, to show empathy or because you taste good to them!
Altogether, there were ten words or phrases specifically recognized by more than 90 percent of all the dogs. These common words and phrases included the dog's name, as well as 'sit', 'come', 'good girl/boy', 'down', 'stay', 'wait', 'no', 'ok', and 'leave it'.
The ideal time to begin training is around 7 to 8 weeks for most puppies, and the most effective training involves positive reinforcement and gentle commands. This is also the age to begin socializing your puppy to new people and new species, allowing them to explore and have new experiences.
