Apply the mascara from root to tip. Begin at the root of your upper lashes, wiggling the wand back and forth as you work your way up to capture each individual lash. Blinking lashes on the mascara wand can also help volumise lashes quickly. Layer up to three coats of mascara – anymore and they may start to flake!
While there are a few different techniques for how to apply mascara, we argue the best way is to hold the mascara brush at the base of your lashes and gently wiggle the wand back and forth and then sweep up and through to the tips. This helps coat more of your lashes and prevent clumps.
Typically when you apply a coat of mascara, you're only coating the bottom part of your lashes. For a darker, more voluminous effect, use the wand to brush down on the top side of your upper lashes. Then, brush them back up from the underside. “Do the top first so you don't weigh the lashes down,” Inglessis says.
“You need to emphasize the center of the eye. Use a regular mascara on your top lashes and then, to open up the eyes, just in the very center of your lashes (above the iris), use a volumizing mascara – but apply it by holding the wand vertically, so it just coats, thickens and accents those middle lashes.”

So, if you're going in with mascara on your bottom lashes without any concealer, it could be a terrible idea!
DON'T wear mascara on your lower lashes. Playing up your lower lashes can make your eyes look droopy and draw attention to dark circles. It makes the eyes look older and accentuates the under eye wrinkles.

Place the mascara brush as close to the root of your lashes as possible, then pull upward. Repeat this step on top of your lashes, moving the wand from the root of your upper lash line to the lash tips. Wait for your first coat to dry before you move on to adding your next layer.
